“Fantastic location, especially to cut from busy life”

Great place, wonderful landscape. Ideal to travel throughout the Highlands, go for a hike and to recover from the busy life.
We had a great time liked the generous rooms, the kitchen and the living room very much.
If we were to mention 2 things to improve:
- more possibilities to hang wet clothes
- hot water at the kitchen tap (something was not going right with the boiler)
Thanks a lot for an unforgettable week

“Peace and Paradise”
Reviewed 3 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

If you crave absolute peace and quiet amid spectacular scenery, Tornacarry is just the place. About a seven minute drive along the single track Invergarry to Kinlochhorn road turn left and go over a metal bridge over Loch Garry to reach the old schoolhouse which is Tornacarry.
It was just the two of us hoping to indulge our love of hill walking in the Scottish Highlands with Tornacarry as our base. We were not disappointed. This quirky house is intriguing, full of character, even down to ancient inkstains on the old wooden flooorboards in what is now the lounge.
However Tornacarry is gradually being dragged into the 21st century with a large flatscreen TV in situ in the comfortably furnished lounge and Wi-Fi also available. There is a modern fully equipped kitchen and two tastefully decorated bedrooms. Views from most of the windows are stunning.
The house has a private water supply which can take a bit of getting used to as the water is a peaty yellowy brown colour - perfectly safe to drink (it has been tested) but odd to look at. Some bottled water was provided by the owners, presumably for the sceptical!
Tornacarry is centrally heated and there is a woodburning stove in the lounge which we did not need to use as our week in mid May was relatively warm.
The house is about 10 miles away from the nearest shops in Fort Augustus but we stocked up on main provisions before we arrived. The kitchen has a fridge and a freezer and plenty of storage cupboards.
There was great walking to be had. The road down to Kinlochhorn is festooned with wonderful mountains, including Munros. We ventured further afield to Glen Shiel and over to Inverness. The beauty of Tornacarry is that all directions are possible by car depending on the vagaries of the weather.
However, Tornacarry is delightful simply to stay around and to potter about. There is a large semi wild garden to explore and even a rope swing attached to a large tree for those brave enough to try it.
Tornacarry is in the process of being updated and improved by the owners who clearly love this lovely old property. So did we.

“Perfect for getting away from it all!”
Reviewed 24 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We spent a week at Tornacarry with some friends and their Jack Russell 'Ellie'. It's a perfect location to get away from it all and explore the fabulous Scottish Highlands. We loved the fact that it was remote and we could switch off and relax from the outside world. There is no mobile phone signal at Tornacarry but you can wander over the bridge and get a signal and there is Wi-Fi if you need access to the internet. While we were there we hired a boat and went fishing on Loch Garry. We also went walking, cycled the Great Glen Way and went canoeing down the River Oich. Our friends enjoyed a ride on the 'Harry Potter route' from Fort William to Mallaig and sampled some 'Cullen Skink'.

Tornacarry is approximately 8 miles from Invergarry. We suggest you take plenty of provisions as it is remote (local shop is 10 miles away). Most nights we cooked dinner and played cards or board games listening to music, however, there is a TV & DVD player. We had lunch at the Invergarry Hotel and went out for dinner at The Lock Inn, Fort Augustus (7 miles from Invergarry) and Letterfinlay Lodge Hotel, Spean Bridge (8 miles from Invergarry) all were very nice and the staff friendly and accommodating. Please note the Sporting Lodge, Tomdoun (approximately 3 miles from Tornacarry) is no longer open.

The living room, dining room and the larger of the two bedrooms has fantastic views over Loch Garry towards the mountains. The upstairs bathroom has a toilet, sink and bath (no shower), however, there is a shower room/toilet on the ground floor. Tornacarry is in a fabulous location it could do with some minor maintenance but nothing that will spoil your stay there.

Anyone wanting somewhere to unwind away from the rat race but with lots of activities available locally will have a lovely holiday at Tornacarry.
