Having visited the Oyster Catcher a number of times over the last year the food can be best described as “up and down”. We have had a number of disappointing meals here and have kept going back as it is a nice venue and we hoped that the food would improve, business t sadly it doesn’t seem to. The latest menu is disappointing, previous menus were better with more variety.
One of the better dishes in the past was the lighter bites cod goujons and chips with mushy peas which was good value and much more manageable than the massive portion of full size fish and chips. Sadly the light bite size is now more a starter size yet the price is still almost £9 so very poor value for money. 3 small thin goujons with 6 chips on mine and only 4 chips on my wife’s portion!!
More care and attention on the quality and quantity of food and slightly quicker service would go a long way and justify the prices. It currently doesn’t feel great value for money.
We paid our bill and spoke to the manager at the time and apparently portion sizes are based on weight?? We were thanked for raising the issue but didn’t feel that anything would change or offered an apology, we were just advised to send an email to head office.
Finally going to give up on the food and won’t be going for much more than a drink in future.

I recently visited with some friends and was really looking forward to it as I’d heard so much about the place.
The whole experience was nothing but a disappointment!!
Staters we had a beef tortellini from the specials board, chicken liver parfait and garlic bread with cheese. The beef tortellini had large pieces of gristle in it, the parfait was an off grey colour and tasted off and the bread it was served with was hard and dry.
Thankfully our main courses of gammon, steak and chicken pappardelle were nice and tasty.
Service was very slow in the restaurant, staff had no idea what was in the dishes, drinks took a long time and we enquired about ice cream flavours and got no answer. The restaurant wasn’t even that busy, there was only our table and another 2 tables in.
We gave feedback to staff abut the starters and the duty manager came over to say thank you for the feedback but there was no more he could do about it, he did not apologise and also continued to charge us for the parfait which was inedible.
We refused to pay for this as it was inedible, such a shame that he had not made the gesture of removing it off the bill.
All in all, would I return or recommend.......no I wouldn’t. Staff at the Oyster Catcher need to remember that local customers are important and we were certainly not made to feel that way.

Great building, stylish decor and very friendly staff. We enjoyed ourselves but some aspects let it down unfortunately. The temperature in the restaurant was volcanic! The heating was so high everyone dining seemed to be suffering. The food was ok but not great value for money £6.50 for 4 pieces of asparagus for starters, although egg with it was fabulous. Seafood linguine was really creamy, too creamy. Mash with pork too creamy. Everything a bit creamy and beige.

Would have stayed for pudding but service slow so took 2 hours for starters and mains and temperature in the room so hot we just wanted out!

Could be great, if they sort some minor details out.
