Description: Situated on the shores of Sydney Harbour on Rose Bay, Catalina is a beautiful, airy light-filled restaurant and bar with floor to ceiling glass sliding doors opening out onto a long curved balcony over the water. In keeping with its harbourside location, the a la carte menu features beautifully fresh seafood - Sydney Rock oysters shucked to order; house cured Mount Cook King salmon; whole snapper and barramundi filleted on the premises - but also a wide range of the best meat Australia has to offer. A fabulous Australian and global wine list (over 800 wines, many available by the glass) and welcoming, attentive service, make this restaurant a must-do Sydney dining experience. Open all day from midday until late, Catalina doesn't close between lunch and dinner. Between 3.00 pm and 6.00 pm graze on bar food overlooking the most beautiful harbour in the world.

We were there for lunch. The place was busy but not slammed, you can seat overlooking the bay or inside still with the view of the harbor. I had a selection of oysters to start and grilled Marron for my main course. Portions are generous so don't be afraid to order to your taste. Marron is a mini version of lobster and the way they were prepared made for an incredibly tasty treat. This may have been one of the best dishes ever. Service is good and wine selection extensive.

Extremely well balanced, high quality food. Cooked to perfection with a view over the water. Lots of servers, all very serious about their jobs, aiming to please. Dress up nicely for this one. I highly recommend the Dessert platter as you can then try a lot of different things, perfect for a small group.

The service, views, location, wine, starter and desert (shared dish) were excellent.
Dishes are not too small so a 3 course order can see you conveniently leave the restaurant feeling full.
Plenty of parking in the park and ferry wharf, mostly 4P which is more than enough for a small party and a walk in the park afterwards.
As of the negatives: we were a group of 7 and we constantly struggled to find space on the table. A bigger table can easily improve this. My own lamb dish was quite chewy. I wanted it medium rare, but it was in fact quite raw and very plain. Just sliced raw lamb, no dressing, no sauce. Quite unimpressive for a high end restaurnat. Other guests seemed quite happy with their food.

Catalina's is a great place to eat. The views are wonderful at any time of day but especially pleasant on balmy evenings when the doors are open. The food is always good, the menu is sufficiently varied to have something for everyone, the cellar would have to be one of the best in Australia. The ambience is extremely pleasant, and you can actually have a conversation with people at your table without having to add to raise your voice; there is plenty of space between tables so you are not "dining with the neighbours" and the service is so good and so understated that I would say it is exemplary. It is dependable and definitely a place you can take out-of-towners or even your boss.

A group of 6 of us went for my mum's special birthday dinner. We were superbly looked after by all of the staff. The decision of what to order was extremely difficult - I really wanted to try everything on the menu!

In the end I went with the Pan seared sea scallops to start (heaven!), followed by the Parsley spaghettini with prawns, octopus and so on. Just delicious. It may seem a silly thing to note, but my mum commented afterwards how every meal was actually HOT when it reached the table. Very true.

Next time I will go for lunch, so that I can enjoy the incredible view!
