The old magazine was built in 1860 on the outskirts of town, and is worth stopping on the Gorge Road circuit. You need a special key to get inside the magazine itself, which is the building inside the heavy surrounding walls, but it's still a very interesting site to visit if you don't go inside. Nicely restored by the National Trust.
Wasn’t aware you needed to pre purchase a ticket to enter the powder magazine. Couldn’t be bothered going back to town so we gave it a miss. Had a short walk around the outside, nice old building.
The gorge trip is an excellent scenic drive through quite a unique area with a stop at the powder magazine worth the few moments it takes
You need to purchase a slide in key card from the information centre, but when we went in April no light show or sound show was going, they said the weather had done something to the electrics and they were waiting to get it fixed, so needed a torch to see anything. wouldnt waste the money to go inside at the moment
Unfortunately the sound & light show wasn't working when we visited - we used the torch on our phone to have a quick look around.
A wonderful experience, an original gun power magazine for the mining of gold back in the mid 1800's. The magazine went into disrepair but has been renovated by the National Trust.
