Rugantino's was a Frankston Institution. I have come to this Restaurant every year since the early 80s. The garlic pizza recipe in particular and the dough base recipe has never ever changed since 1969. Still as good as way back when I first visited in 1984. The same tried and proven family recipe has stood the test of time. It's sad that in 2016 this Restaurant has apparently closed down. May I say that the last owners were excellent. They remained authentic to the Restaurant and its customers and continued its great taste and traditions. It's really sad that some people have taken this place for granted over the years. People should support local business and not give into multi chains because it's businesses like these that ultimately produce the inspiration for true master chefs. The food was right up there with the best. Dare I say, the best tasting pizza in Australia and possibly beyond. No need to have gone to Lygon Street, because it was all here waiting at Rugantinos in Frankston. The hipster and yuppie generations gone before it, it's rided many challenges throughout its history. It seems however that inflexible attitudes of those against led to its demise. In my opinion, every pizza here, every pasta dish was up there with the very best. The atmosphere was amazing. There was a cheap quarter for the patrons who just wanted an in and out pizza meal. There was a fine dining area with aquatic display, tablecloths and personalized service and there was a generous takeaway area with tv screen for those on the go. I really hope that this restaurant returns for the sake of its believers but also to re-instate what is "true" Italian food at reasonable prices. True Authentic Italian food, not yuppy nonsense. True Italian food that is actually cooked by Italians. Real Italians. Real Italian Food. Demand it. Demand it because you want Italian Authenticity. Forza Italia! Forza Rugantinos!
