Admittedly, we got there before lunch. The main door was open, but it was like the Marie Celeste. Eventually we found someone on the nearby vineyard who made a telephone call, and in about 30 minutes a woman turned up, gave us the door key, and disappeared. We never saw her again. In fact the only other person we saw during our four nights worked in the bar and gave us some breakfast vouchers.

The room was quite OK. It was early spring, and rather cold, but the heater supplied was adequate. There was no smartcard in the TV, so we were reduced to one Australian channel, one Italian and one Hungarian. There are no outside lights, so a trip from the car after dark proved quite perilous.

There appears to be a connection of some kind between the hostel and the Epicurian in Red Hill South. The latter has gastronomic pretentions, hence the name, and does a nice lunchtime soup. However, it can't supply a cooked breakfast, and the staff appeared gob-smacked that we might want one. So $200.00 of vouchers were wasted. The Food on the Hill nearby is infinitely better.

And finally, our bed remained unmade and there was no rubbish collection either. The place does wine-tasting over the weekend, but you'd never know. A dispiriting experience.

Room Tip: Eat at the Food on the Hill

Quiet, out of the way vineyard with simple/ delicious food and very nice wine. A fabulous way to spend a warm Sunday afternoon, Mantons Creek estate have live music on sat & sun that is gentle, unobtrusive and adds to the languid atmosphere. Service was a bit slow but all staff were lovely and the slow pace only served to remind us to relax and enjoy feeling like we had all the time in the world. Recommend it & will return.

We arrived mid week and had the place to ourselves all very nice with lovely views of the vineyard and gardens. The room was large with a balcony and all very comfortable, breakfast was supplied in room to make yourself and a bottle of complementry wine in fridge. We would stay again, all very nice and friendly staff. WiFi worked well and king bed very good. The only reason I would not give it 5 stars is that the outside of windows/doors/balcony had a lot of spider webs and could do with a proper clean.

A nice place. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are stylish.one of my favourite things was sitting on the balcony eating a lovely breakfast looking at the vineyard was just magic. It near enough to the wineries and just short drive to Flinders to look at the shops. very nice.

We visited and stayed at Mantons on the 28/12. The manager was extremely helpful and obliging. The room was great with a view over the vineyard. Clean, tidy and a great bed. Situated in a picturesque valley. Close to all the vineyards. We dined at L' Bouchon just down the road and that was excellent. We enjoyed the stay.
