Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a recommendation for this beautiful cabin. Please let us know if we can be of assistance to you in the future.
Beautiful cabin, but... In need of pest control and a good cleaning. Stink under kitchen sink (dead mice in traps??). Mouse droppings under kitchen sink BESIDE two traps down there... Other droppings found in lower cabinets + drawers. Upstairs we literally killed more than a dozen JUMBO roaches. On the last night one crawled out from under sheets when I pulled back covers to get in bed. Woke husband as it was crawling toward him. We wouldn't sleep in bed any longer. Also lots of spiders + webs in corners. Stove door handle was broke off, upstairs bedroom no cable, fireplace downstairs wouldn't light. Only one burner on outside grill worked. Posting this in hopes cabin owner reads. We called management company to check out, tried to let them know concerns, not to ask for a refund etc. Husband got "disconnected" after he mentioned that there were a few issues they may want to fix for future guests. Have tried to call back a few times. No answer, only machine. UPDATE: husband emailed rental company details of issues as an FYI. We're not requesting a refund, since we did stay length of rental. Will post additional info if/when we receive a response.
First let me say that we are very sad that this guest did not enjoy their stay at our cabin. We did receive a call from the husband of the registered guest the morning of check out. We did answer the call but lost service as we were in Townsend cleaning cabins and getting them ready for our next guest. This is our busiest season so the entire staff was in Townsend helping out. It only makes sense that we did not answer the next call because we were out of a service area. When we arrived back to the office we called them but they did not answer. Shortly after that we did receive an email about their stay. It was answered within minutes and again, I tried to call but no one answered.
We also did not hear from this guest at all during their stay. We answer the phone from 8am - 10pm and call back any messages as soon as we get them. We could have easily taken care of any issues that they had.
Being in the mountains, we consistently battle pest issues. As the guests states, there are mouse traps in inconspicuous places but there are no dead mice left in the cabin. The traps are checked each time the cabin is cleaned to make sure there are no dead mice or evidence of mice. These are a form of preventative maintenance so that we do not have any problems while we have guests in the cabin.
Here is the email that we sent back to them. Words in () are added for explanation.

Dear Mr. XXX - We have tried to call you twice today prior to receiving this email. No one answers your cell phone number that we have on file. Keith did speak with you and told me, once back at the office this afternoon, that he had been disconnected during your phone call and was in Townsend with very limited service. This is why we called to speak with you. Neither he nor Smoky Cabins is avoiding your phone call.
1. The handle to the oven door came unscrewed. It was repaired by me when I was there earlier cleaning for our next guest. The screw was still in the hole and just needed to be tightened with a screw driver. (Note that it was not broken when they arrived but came unscrewed during their last morning and breakfast.)
2. We know about the fireplace not working and have a part on order. (There are two fireplaces in this cabin. Both are now working.)
3. We will replace the grill. We do not use the grill and no one has mentioned that there is a burner that is not functioning. (The grill has been replaced.)
4. Being in the mountains, we knock down spider webs daily. Our cabins are all treated for pest on a monthly basis and in between if necessary. Because we are surrounded by woods, spiders seem to find their way in anyway. We will continue to do our best and knock them down and get rid of them as quickly as we see them.
5. Again, we have the cabins treated monthly and in between if necessary. We will have it treated for mice since you have reported seeing droppings.
6. Up until now, we have not had anyone tell us about any roach issues but, here again, we will have an extra treatment done by the exterminator.
I'm sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. Bear Meade is a highly sought after cabin and has many return visitors. It saddens us that you did not enjoy your stay. We would like to offer you one free night on your next stay of 3 nights or more to show you that we are sorry and do aim to please our guests.

To Whom It May Concern,
I called your office this morning to check out of Bear Meade. I let the office worker know that we had a few concerns. The phone got disconnected and when I tried to call back twice only the answering machine picked up. I now am under the impression that the office worker did not want to listen to my concerns. There are a number of issues that should be addressed prior to the next guest arriving. 1. While making breakfast this morning the handle on the oven fell off. It seems to be missing a screw. 2. The fireplace would not light. 3. The left burner on the BBQ grill will not light. 4. There were cobwebs throught the cabin. 6. The toilet seat came loose in the downstairs bathrom. 7. We found mouse droppings under the sink. I would strongly recommend an exterminator come out to the cabin. 8. We killed or tried to kill 12 cockroaches. They seem to be primarily near the upstairs bathroom. The final straw came last night when we found a cockroach in the upstairs bed. I spent the night in my vehicle. This was not an acceptable ending to our vacation.
We also send a survey to every guest on the day after they check out asking for feedback concerning their stay. If we did not want to hear any negative feedback, we would not ask for information. The roaches that they saw were wood roaches and came in during the cold snap that we had during this guests stay. We had the cabin thoroughly treated the day the guests checked out and the next guests have not seen any.
Please take a look at our other reviews as we do respond to our guests and do the best that we can in the mountain environment that we are in.

We stayed at Bear Meade for a week while exploring the Smoky Mountain National Park. It was a great choice! The cabin is beautiful inside and out....the front porch was so beautiful and inviting. The Jacuzzi was a nice bonus after a long day of hiking. Our family had a wonderful time at Bear Meade.
Thank you guys so much for leaving your thoughts on Bear Meade. So many come back to it time and time again!! Please let us know if you visit the Smokies again. We would love to have you back!!

This cabin was very well equipped. and very clean. It was nicely furnished and well decorated. It was perfect inside and out and had a beautiful large covered porch, perfect for enjoying morning coffee. This was part of a resort and had a nice pool that the kids enjoyed.
It is located in Townsend which is away from the crowds but close enough to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg (which was like an amusement park). The kids loved the tubing in Townsend and Wonderworks in Pigeon Forge and we liked the Tuckaleechee Caverns.
Thank you so much for leaving your thoughts on this beautiful cabin.
The cabin was clean and well supplied with beautiful towels and dishes. The driveway was steep but manageable. It was in a nice quiet forested setting.
Thank you so much for staying at Bear Meade. We have more return guests in this cabin than almost any other. Please give us a call next time you will be in the area. We would love to have you!!
It was a cozy cabin, located in a quite area. Some details will be in my memory for a long time: personalized items with "Bear Meade" on it, nice windbell, hottub (though we did not use it), swing chair, all kinds of utensils and decorations. They even had a toy bear hanging on the tree outside the cabin! They also had internet and TV. We found it very relaxing!
Thank you so much for letting us know about your experience at Bear Meade. We hope to be able to serve you again in the future.
