Last week I had the opportunity to dine at the Sweet Lemon Kitchen for the first time. They are only open to the public for breakfast and lunch. I had been hearing great things about it and was now getting a chance to try it first hand. The staff was very friendly and the weather was very pleasant. So, my friend and I sat at a table out on the front porch. I chose the Chicken Salad Sandwich which came on a croissant. For a side, the selection was either fruit or chips. I chose the fruit. I believe this was the most delicious chicken salad sandwich that I have ever had! The croissant was flaky and the chicken salad was really tasty. The fresh fruit was also very good. The ladies at the table next to us had a breakfast croissant with eggs and grilled tomatoes and said it was absolutely fabulous! The pastries looked delicious, but I resisted.

Lunch was outstanding. Portions were large and very good. I can see why the place was full. The Mississippi mud pie looked so good we had to try it. It was large enough for us to share.

When a restaurant menu says "gluten free" you expect some real gluten free dishes. I don't consider a bowl of fruit or withholding the bread from a sandwich to be really gluten free. If so, then ALL restaurants are gluten free. This seems pretty silly to me. My wife has gluten issues so when we tried Sweet Lemon Kitchen for breakfast today and asked about their gluten free breads/flours, we were surprised they had none. They even had to check with the kitchen staff on whether they could withhold the croissant from my wife's egg and bacon breakfast sandwich (WTH?). Sweet Lemon Kitchen is located in a nice old house, nice wooden floors, light and airy feeling, friendly service. Just disappointed in their menu. And, it was a little pricey ($26 for 2 breakfast sandwiches, 1 cinnamon roll, 1 coffee, 1 tea). Not sure we would go back.
