Description: Established in 1976 In the summer of 1976, Henry "Hank" Zwirek and his buddy, Ed, both native Chicagoans, grew tired of living in the windy city and relocated to Houston. Hank realized the burgeoning city lacked high quality pizza and delivery service (which was a norm in Chicago). Acting on Hank's instincts, the two purchased a quaint two-story house on Norfolk and in October of 1976, a Star (pizza) was born.Business continued to thrive and Hank was eager to expand. In the summer of 1988 a second Star was born, affectionately named Star 2. The offspring of the original was located at 140 S. Heights Blvd. in the building that's now home to Chatter's.The original Star is still located in the house on Norfolk, and continues to offer the same homely atmosphere as it did in 1976. To this day the Zwirek family owns and operates both locations and thanks their loyal Star Pizzanites for their support throughout the years.

We liked Star Pizza, so we thought we'd give it another try.

It was good, but not as good as the first time. My wife noticed that, and I had the same impression.

The Garlic Bread and cheese was excellent as an appetizer.

The Starburst pizza good, but I didn't find it as great. The price is on the high end. For a medium pizza, garlic bread (and tip), you're looking at $25.

Star Pizza does provide very good service.

Was in the area - so stopped for lunch. This is in a very rough section of town. It is a run-down restaurant. It was very busy. The waitress was very nice and efficient. The salad was good. The pizza crust tasted like cardboard. Sorry to say that, but it's the truth. Being from the northeast, I may just have higher expectations, but we really didn't eat much of it at all because it was so bad. The sauce and cheese were very sparse as well.

The friendly and efficient staff at this long-time staple of the South Shepherd restaurant scene is the best part of the dining experience. But based on our recent lunch experience, the food comes in at average.

The Caesar salad was crisp and fresh, but dry with too little dressing. The marinara sauce with the spaghetti was abundant, slightly sweet but with not much spice or other flavor. Meatballs were also slightly bland. Lasagna was tasty, probably the best of our two main courses. Portions were generous, but a lunch special size and lower price would have been appreciated. We did not try the pizza buffet, or any pizza for that matter on this trip.

Wine by the glass pour was about right for the price; beer selection included a number of local beers and beer specials vary by day, according to the beverage menu.

The patio remains a favorite place to sit, but inside dining areas could use a little freshening.

We met our friends at Star Pizza Saturday. We drove in from Katy, and it was well worth the drive. I have heard good things about Star Pizza, and it lived up to the hype.

We ordered a medium Starburst pizza. The Starbust has ground beef, Italian sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms and green pepper. It was very good. The pizza was plenty for 3 people, and we have a couple slices left for the next day.

My wife started off with a Caesar salad. She thought was excellent.

The service was quick, friendly and welcoming.

Star Pizza and Barry's Pizza are some of the best pizza in Houston. We'll come back to Star Pizza
