We were only in Vermont for 3 days and ate at J.J. Hapgood twice because we liked it so much. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody, they have something for everybody. The expertly do comfort food, like burgers, fried chicken, club sandwich and pizza's, while taking them to the next level. The fried chicken sandwich was not just a piece of fried chicken but perfectly fried chicken on a delicious brioche roll and perfectly matched sauce. We sat outside on the patio because it was a beautiful day both times. They have yard toys for kids and adults to occupy time while you wait. We did not discover the drink menu until after our last visit, I will definitely return during happy hour to try a few different delicious sounding options.

It's fast becoming my Friday night bonus - I love this place - food is always excellent and often there is live music during dinner hour. Thanks for offering GF pizza and doing it well.

We went to JJHapgood for lunch and dinner and had the most amazing time! The food was made with locally sourced ingredients and absolutely delicious! The waitstaff was very attentive and made us feel right at home. We were also able to find some unique gifts to take home! It is a must on your way through Southern Vermont, do not miss this gem!

This was our 3rd trip to J J Hapgood. The first 2 trips we ended up leaving without ordering due to poor organization in handling customers. They have no way to control people from butting in front of others.
On this trip we arrived at 2:00 thinking we would miss the crowd. We walked up to the counter, placed our order and the girl ask if it was "for here or to go". We said for here and she said we should have sat down and placed our order with a server. There were no signs indicating it. However she said she would pass the order to kitchen and tell the server we had already ordered. Thirty minutes passed before a server came back asking if we had ordered any food. We explained what happened and she came back saying our order was not in the kitchen and took our order again.
My wife ordered pea soup which was sad. so think it could be used to hang wallpaper and tasted of strange herbs. I had the BLT and the bacon was very good.
That trip was strike 3 so we've given up on J. J. Hapgood and will go else where when hungry.

We stopped into this quirky restaurant/store after a few hours of snowshoeing, up the road. What a great place! Loved the historic charm of the building, which was beautifully renovated with antiques and artsy touches. The menu was awesome - locally sourced ingredients, creative dishes. We ordered the vegetarian split pea soup, local beef burger, truffle fries, gourmet grilled cheese and a local beer. Everything was excellent! The wait service was friendly and outstanding. This is not an inexpensive place for lunch...our bill for the above came to $48.00, which is way more then we would typically spend for lunch, but since we were on a mini-vacation and the food/service was so good, it was well worth it, and we would absolutely return.
