Owner description: The Captain Timothy Hill House was built circa 1800 and is the oldest known house on Chincoteague Island. Originally built to have a wooden chimney...the replication of that chimney is now in place. Listed on The National Register of Historic Places and The Virginia Landmarks Register in 2011...a visit to this house is a step back in time to the early life on the island. Open to the public during the summer season with tours on Fridays 1-3 PM and additionally Wednesdays in July 1-3 PM. Other times by appointment. Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated.

Although the hours of operation were difficult to find, the tour itself was well done. It was fun to look at the graffiti on the outside of the building that was put there by sailors long ago.

Th Hill house isn't open very often, but when it is I highly recommend going if you love history! The owner's are actors and do a wonderful job disclosing the history of the house. They have spent many hours restoring the house and learning its history. It is only two rooms but wonderful.

Love it!

House was closed as we were here in the late winter, but we will return to visit. The is one of Chincoteague's oldest historic small houses, if not the oldest, on the island & is well worth visiting. Check open hours before scheduling a visit.

My wife and I recently visited Chincoteaque Island for their annual Christmas Parade and House Tour. The Captain Timothy Hill House was one of the properties that was listed on the tour. This is the oldest structure on the island and on the tour we were given a wonderful history on the structure and families that occupied the house. Every home on the house tour was unique in its own way and worth the time to stop and enjoy the Christmas decorations and talk to the owners about their properties. The CTHH is very special and worth checking out when visiting CI.
