I found this restaurant online and so didn't have any word of mouth ideas about what the restaurant might be like. I went with a friend and we both were floored with the location, the food, and the presentation. Since it was cooler we ate inside the "green house". This is the main indoor dining area. It is both nice enough that you can be well dressed, but also casual enough that sharp casual will do. We spent the next 3 hours enjoying course after course with excellent wine pairings. Each course was well described by the wait staff. They explain the source, the history, and how the food might have been served in the past (indigenous people). The food was wonderful and kept us guessing on the flavors that came out. The wine pairings were also good matches. What a wonderful evening!!! I can't wait to return.

Here is the first thing you do: Ask the server what ingredients come from within a hundred miles. Our server came up with six, including herbs. Who is that man behind the green curtain? Our lunches were fresh but definitely not local.

We were there in July, having read various reviews. We expected to find glorious salads, with ingredients fresh from the garden. Not on the menu.

The view of the Potomac River is entirely obscured by the dense tree line. We could see some trusses of the bridge.

Simply beautiful from the moment we stepped out of our vehicle in the parking lot. The view of the mountains and valleys. The walk into the greenhouse makes you feel like you are really going to experience farm to table. The servers know everything about the menu. We enjoyed a three course meal, served in unique containers family style. So much flavor in every selection.

This restaurant has the highest rating; however, it is a bit over the top as far as theatrics are concerned. We giggled a bit at the contrivances (a little bonfire between courses made of cinnamon sticks, the elaborate nod to historic references: what native Americans ate reconstructed into gourmet cuisine)- but each course, each dramatic presentation, tasted delicious! So although one doesn't need to repeat the experience, we left having enjoyed our food and the pretty room (a converted greenhouse). This isn't necessarily a knock on the proprietors; we feel the same way about 5-star Michelin restaurants in Europe trying to create fantasies instead of just remarkable tastes.
