I didn't enjoy the time I spent there. The site was under renovation. Therefore from outside it was only possible to see the scaffolding all around the mausoleum. How disappointing! I should have informed about that beforehand at the ticket office but nobody took the initiative to let me know there where works in progress...business is business. Furthermore there was no discount because of the inconvenience. I had to pay full price to see what? Inside, differently from other places in China, the staff members where pretty strict on allowing visitors to take pictures. Therefore I couldn't take any picture as a memory of my visit. Last but not the least I visited the so called "Residence of Genghis Khan" which was something that made me chuckle as this complex was launched in 1977. My advice is to eventually go to Genghis Khan mausoleum only once the renovation is over. However the best place to know more and more about the Mongolian ruler is to visit the place he was born in, which is far away from the place where the mausoleum is located.
