My husband and I debated how to rate this hotel, so we thought we would lay out the pluses and minuses of the hotel. For background, we were travelling around Belgium and had trouble finding a place on the weekend for us and the kids and the dog. We didn't really have Durbuy as a destination, but selected it because it was generally in the right region and had a room available.
Pluses:
--The town was absolutely amazing. We had no idea what to expect, and we thought it was absolutely charming when we drove into the village. We stayed longer than expected.
--The hotel is right in the center of it all.
--Rooms had a nice seating area (with a pull out sofa) and a separate bedroom which gave us quite a bit of space.
--The house has a kitchen which we could use, which was quite welcome after a day on the road.
--The woman who greeted us was extremely warm and helpful and we agree with others that she made you feel at home. She drove with us to show us where to park the car (for free).
--This was really more of a house than a hotel, I think there were 3 rooms, no more than 4.
-- All in all, we thought it was perfectly reasonable for our one night stay.
Some minuses-
--We arrived later (around 8pm) and there was no one there (as it is more of a house than a hotel). I was a little nervous but called the number of my confrmation and the owner quickly responded and came to greet me. To her defense, she had tried to call me earlier in the day to see when I would arrive, but I didn't get the message. I would recommend you establish an arrival time with them.
-- We stayed on the top floor- the steps to the top floor were extremely narrow. My kids (and the dog) had difficulty navigating them. For families with children, or the elderly, you would want to stay on the first floor-- the stairs to the second floor seemed pretty standard. It was the top floor that was the problem.
-- While the room was big, quite charming, and had everything you might need, the furniture didn't seem particularly sturdy- the table and the shelves were extremely wobbly.
