Obviously a ski resort in winter and an adventurous tourist destination in summer. The Campo Imperatore is a glorious place in spring and the hotel a welcome place for refreshments and history. Some of the original fascist era decor is still up. This is not a shrine but it does not hide the fact that it was the 'prison' of Benito Mussolini in 1943.
The outside has not been redecorated in a while but the service was welcoming and the refreshments very welcome!

Nice hotel, very basic and confortable. If you like the adventure and the nature, and you are a flexible guy, that place is for you. Good quality/price rapport. Potentialy they can do much better. Finally I suggest it.

Our tour of the central region of Italy brought us to the top of Campo Imperatore just at the heavens opened. The temperature was 3C outside and rain/sleet. We headed in to the reception with no sign of anyone. exploring further we found the bar area with two intrepid walkers. In the restaurant was a group of 4 apparently having a meal.
We decide to have a hot chocolate after encouragement from the server. How nice was it. Liquid chocolate - delicious but possible too rich for some. We tried the pastry and cakes which were also nice and tasty.
Refueled we were ready for our retreat to more hospitable climes.
Over all the it is a nice place, tired and dated in areas but that complements the ruggedness of the environment.

We come to campo Imperatore Refugio several times during the summer months for hiking, running and getting out of the sweltering heat of Rome. The deal cannot be beat and the food tastes treat after a long day of activity. The rooms are basic but clean and while there is not WIFI in the rooms, it is strong in the common areas and dining room. Our room did not have a tv, but there really is not time to watch it anyway.b The beds are comfortable, and the pool in the basement is a nice way to end the day. Parking is abundant and the staff are very attentive and friendly. There is always a smile on guests faces to it must be satisfactory for everyone.

Location is excellent, however, this is not even a 3 star hotel. There is not much to do during the winter, for skiing only two lifts, total of four so-so not demanding (blue, red) trails, cca 4 km total run. After skiing, nowhere to go, nothing to do. Hotel is advertised with swimming pool, true, but water was not included. Spa and gym, also not working.
Rooms small but clean, heating was OK for a winter, very small windows and bathroom. Restaurant open 2 hours for each meal, dinner from 8 PM only, hotel rules left over from times of il Duce.
Food substandard for Italy, Decided to leave earlier, due to bad weather, was overcharged for 200 EUR by mistake, hotel staff (Carlo & Chiara) promised to reimburse me several times when called/mailed back, however, never saw money.
