I stayed at La Poggerina with my family years ago and had such a good time that I decided to take my wife as part of our honeymoon. Once again we were blown away by the hospitality of Emanuele and his parents who baked us Lasagna and brought us Tuscan Grape Harvest Cake and Chianti.
The house is in a great location: ~40 min easy drive from Florence, 10 minutes from downtime Figline which makes grocery shopping, restaurants, etc. easy, 20 min from Greve in Chianti, 30 minutes from Radda in Chianti, etc. Keep in mind, everything take awhile to get to in Chianti due to the windy roads so La Poggerina is very close to it all.
The house is huge and always immaculate with so many different places to relax inside or out. It's really a perfect house for friends and family but is a little big for a couples trip :)
Visiting Emanuele is like like traveling to Italy to visit your cool uncle. He's responsive via WhatsApp, incredibly knowledgable about all things Tuscany, willing to call restaurants for you, make suggestions, etc. He's not intrustive at all but you'll want him around as his company is enjoyable.
Must do from La Poggerina:
1. Have a Pizza night with Francesco and Margherita
2. Dine at La Bugia
3. Go down the waterslide if the pool is open - no matter the temperature (great views)
4. Ask Emanuel about eggs from the chickens outside for breakfast
This villa is beautiful on the inside and has gorgeous outdoor areas as well. The views of the countryside are spectacular and it is conveniently located near Greve as well as Figline. But what really makes it special is that Emanuele is a perfect host and incredibly helpful and attentive. My wife and I shared the villa with our daughter and son-in-law and eighteen month old grandson. Emanuele and I had texted back and forth prior to the trip and he was always incredibly responsive. He frequently got back to me immediately despite the time differential and I don't think it ever took him more than an hour to respond. When we arrived, Emanuele (and his equally friendly and helpful girlfriend Olga) had purchased a brand new crib mattress and baby monitor for us to use for our grandson. That was way above and beyond what was expected or necessary. His attentiveness was that way throughout our trip - whether it was restaurant suggestions, hiking ideas etc, Emanuele was always responsive, always cheerful and always pointed us in the right direction. I would recommend this villa to anyone. We could not have been more pleased with our choice to stay at Emanuele's villa.
After an exhaustive search, and on the advice of previous tripadvisor reviews, we booked La Villa Poggerina for one week of our family get away. Our three adult children and two son-in-laws completed our party of seven. There was plenty of room for us to spread out and large areas where we could gather for games and meals.
The villa was clean, quiet and well equipped. The kitchen was spacious and modern. A large dining table converted to a pool table which we thoroughly enjoyed. A washing machine allowed us to pack light. Outside were several sitting areas with spectacular views and a swimming pool.
The most enjoyable part of this rental though is the wonderful hosts! Emanuel and his parents, Gabriella and Silvio, were thoughtful, accommodating and most generous! They spoiled us with wonderful gifts of food and drinks; a welcome meat and cheese board, flavorful olive-oil, fresh peaches, fresh eggs, wine, limoncello and the best lasagna we have ever had! They facilitated our "Pizza Night" with a local chef who prepared delicious wood fired pizzas on our patio one evening. And, Gabriella went so far as to arrange manicures in nearby Figline for my daughter and myself. In addition, their beautiful white dog, Cici won our hearts. She was friendly and well behaved. We all wanted more time with her.
We could not have found a more perfect place in Tuscany to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary!
Trust the reviews and book this villa. You will not be disappointed.
The location is perfect for exploring Tuscany. It is a short drive or train ride to Florence. Wine country is at your doorstep and it is an easy drive to many other Tuscany locations such as Siena and Greve in Chianti. Emanuele is the perfect host-attentive but not intrusive. He gave us many suggestions of places to visit, restaurant recommendations and even booked the most incredible wine tour for us. He also offers a pizza night with a local chef. My family loved pizza night and even learned an Italian toast! Also not to be missed is his mother's lasagna (and her limoncello!). It is simply to die for. I could go on and on but suffice it to say his hospitality is amazing. The villa is immaculate and beautifully furnished. The pool and grounds are beautiful. There are 5 new bikes available for your use. It is truly perfect. Thank you Emanuele for making our stay memorable! We will be back!
My husband, myself, mother in law and mother have just spent the most amazing week in an absolutely beautiful Villa. Breathe taking views, hospitality from the owner Emmanuel and his family. His mother sent over homemade Lasagna, olive oil and liquor (lemon)
Bikes where provided for guests, lovely touch as my husband is a keen cyclist!
We are looking to return next year.
