Stayed here for the 3rd night of our walking holiday in Madeira. We were the only guests, which made for a slightly uncomfortable experience. The owner looked after us very well, the food was excellent and freshly prepared and the room was very pleasant and clean. The hotel is about 1km from the harbour and in a residential neighbourhood - there's a nightclub next door, which we were please to discover was closed for the season, but which one imagines may ensure a noisy night for anyone with a front-facing room when it's in operation.

We stayed at the Perola on a walking trip. The accommodation is simple but clean and everything worked. The food was good. The hostess was friendly and helpful. It is a good walk, uphill, from the beach and centre but OK for the walks.

This place has the feel of frequent usage by tour agencies - from the impersonal reception, unhelpful reception staff and the bland bedrooms. Its unremarkable location (although not quite as far out of town as some maps suggest) doesn't help its cause!

The beds themselves were reasonable enough, and the bedroom a good big size (although maybe that was to make up for the lack of a sea view). The bathroom was again a good big size, but the shower floor was rusty in places - rather unpleasant.

Breakfast was unremarkable. The lack of wifi anywhere in the property was disappointing.

The whole experience was rather dismal.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. Stay somewhere else!
