River Bluff Farm Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 2 Quicksburg B&B and Inns
Reviewed 21 August 2017 via mobile

"Quicksburg" is literally in New Markets backyard, a short drive through a corn field, left past the train tracks (look both ways) zig then zag in quicksburg, cross the tracks again (look both ways) and you'll find yourself at a B&B so close to all Shenandoah county has to offer your take out food is still hot, but feels like it's in the middle of nowhere. Perched above the river, dinning on the large deck or rocking on the covered porch of this recently remodeled log cabin is about as relaxing as it gets. It's easy to fall in love with this place, FAST. Inside, every modern convenience has been added, while staying true to the original buildings historic character, in what was a well done, extensive renovation. Based on another reviewers tip, we chose the Shenandoah room, which boasts a view of the river and a two twins into a king bed. The bath, features a beautifully crafted live edge black walnut vanity made by the owners son and a single corner shower. The two other rooms feature queen beds and large double showers. There is also a loft area, rumored to be the favorite place for kids to sleep, when the whole house is booked. The place oozes rustic elegance. Walking down to sit by the river, take out the canoe or hiking up to the top of the bluff for a sunset/sunrise view, your home away from home becomes very comfortable very fast.
If the close proximity, beautiful grounds, extensive amenities don't amaze you, then the hosts, Donna and Matt and their amazing food will. Friendly, warm and inviting, without being "too much" you'll instantly feel like your visiting old friends. And their breakfasts are AMAZING! Weather permitting, served out on the deck overlooking the river, peach cobbler (peaches grown on property) blueberry French toast casserole, homemade sausages and the best (sugar cured?) bacon I've ever had! Having stayed at several Shenandoah valley B&B's and small hotels, we can positively say, this was our favorite stay, by FAR!

Convenient to Interstate 81, yet tucked away in a beautiful, private setting on a large, quiet property, this B&B is a great getaway.

River Bluff B&B is a well-located, comfortable place to stay and hosts Donna and Matt are so welcoming. They take great care in making sure their guests are well served, while at the same time, allowing them privacy. The WIFI worked great and the delicious breakfasts were homemade and differed each morning. Keuring coffee for us real early risers, prior to the breakfast coffee and meal, was much appreciated!

We'll be back for sure!

Some things we did and our experiences....
During our three-night stay, my wife and I cruised the scenic Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, spent a day in the hip college town of Harrisonburg (craft beer at Three Notch'd and pizza at Bella Luna were both superb), discovered several area wineries (nearby Third Hill and also Wolf Gap were our favorites). We also strolled around several quaint, small towns including Woodstock and New Market. (Woodstock Café looked good for lunch and we plan to hit it next time). Also, Carmella's in Edinburg had great lunch --- the meatball sub and Tuscan chicken sandwich were truly A+ and wines were nice and very moderately priced. If you like pork BBQ, the very casual Beans in Edinburg (cash only) is very good. Hint: split the sandwich, trust us.

Thank you Donna and Matt for being such great hosts and for making our visit to River Bluff B&B so enjoyable and relaxing.

Room Tip: Shenandoah Room was comfy and quiet and can be set as a king or as two twins.

We were there for a business after hours social event. As members of the chamber, we have seen many properties and this one was really nice. What set it apart was the rural country setting, decor and friendliness of the owners.

We were given a tour of the unoccupied bedrooms and enjoyed seeing all of the spaces available for socializing.

This would be a great place to meet family driving in from various parts of the US and just be able to hang out with them.

There is a very large patio that would be perfect for a summer get together!

Room Tip: I hear you can rent the entire house! Cute kitchen!

We recently stayed at the River Bluff B&B and had a great time. Donna and Matt were very welcoming and made delicious breakfasts. The inn was very clean and decorated very tastefully with newly updated rooms and baths. An ideal home will all the amentities to rent for a family or just a couples getaway. It's located close to quaint towns with plenty of things to do or just relax and enjoy the river. We definitely will be back for a longer stay.

While kayaking down the Shenandoah, my husband suggested we look in on a new B&B in our little village. After we pulled up our kayaks, we walked up the hill, noting the open spaces and wonderful fire pit on the way. We came upon a lovely old home with a nice inviting deck. "Happy Birthday", my husband said,"we are staying here for the night!" This Inn is beautiful, nicely decorated with a fully equipped kitchen, not to mention a beautiful old cook stove. We stayed in the downstairs room, very cozy with a very nice bathroom. We grilled on the deck that night, it was one of my best birthdays!
