Does anyone know the recipe or ingredients in their amazing clam chowder? It had more spice and layers of flavor than anywhere---and we try clam chowder wherever we go---east coast or west coast!

Excellent food and friendly wait staff, but only 11 tables in this small, cozy restaurant. We arrived behind a big group that took up a third of the restaurant. Ended up waiting 30 minutes for our salad and sandwich for lunch. Food was great, but the kitchen was overwhelmed by the big group.

Far too expensive for two sandwiches and two cups of soup at lunch. One sandwich dried out, the other, a turkey reuben, with a strange taste. Famous clam chowder was average and the potato leak soup had minimal taste. Why do people rate this place so highly? Hard to believe this is #1 in Port Townsend. One server for the entire restaurant with 10 tables. Kitchen help walking around in a wife beater t-shirt. Skip this place.

I'm still gushing about beautiful Port Townsend to all who will listen. Not to be ignored are the wonderful restaurants that showcase what a culinary gem you'll find in this small sea town. The Fountain deserves it's high Trip Advisor rating. Taking other's advise, I called ahead for a table in this boutique size restaurant; fortunately they had a cancellation. Located on the first floor of an old, victorian style row house - the first thing that grabs you about this cozy spot is the eclectic artsy decor, and the jazzy club music ambience-a very hip vibe for a small restaurant. Prawns seem to be popular dishes in Townsend, so if you're a lover of these large crustaceans, try the Angel Prawn entree. The crisp fresh vegetables, large prawns, pasta and spicy Asian broth is so flavorful- you'll want an extra helping of their organic baguettes to devour the lime, ginger sauce. Their entrees are large so you won't be disappointed. My waiter was extremely attentive- his wine pairing suggestion was perfect. He almost tempted me with dessert but there was absolutely no room left! I enjoyed my experience so much that I returned the next evening for lovely, rich dessert, Bailey's Irish Creme Brulee. Yum. Put The Fountain on your "must dine" list.

I had seafood and it was great. Small restaurant, on one of the main streets, but a little quieter than Water St.
