We stayed at the Dungeness Barn House Bed and Breakfast for one night before catching the ferry to Vancouver Island. Before we even went to bed that evening, we were already planning our next stay.
Su was a gracious, most helpful hostess (Clare was out of town, but we look forward to meeting her on our next visit). We, along with our senior-aged Pomeranian, felt absolutely welcomed into their home. The home is absolutely spectacular! A converted 1926 (I believe) barn into a house worthy of Better Homes & Gardens. It was obvious that the utmost care and attention to detail goes into every inch of the house and property - from the eclectic, world-traveler decorations to the well-maintained gardens.
The location of the house is incredibly peaceful and serene. It's on a corner lot overlooking the Dungeness Bay and Spit with the Dungeness Lighthouse off in the distance. We watched the cruise ships come and go right outside the huge picture window in the common room upstairs. When daylight faded, the reassuring blink of the lighthouse came into view. There was very little traffic noise as the property is bordered by a gravel road that seems to be used only by local residents.
The morning of our journey to Vancouver Island, I peacefully meditated in the yoga loft while the delicious smells of breakfast being cooked and coffee being brewed wafted upstairs from the kitchen. Awaiting us was a beautiful Avocado Eggs Benedict with fresh veggies straight from the kitchen garden. Su and her helper (sorry, I've forgotten her name, but she was lovely!) chatted easily with us as we ate breakfast, our pup by our side.
And the bonus feature: the property includes the sweetest little deck right out over the water of Dungeness Bay. Access is through a locked gate across the gravel road from the house. It's the perfect place to share a bottle of wine and watch the ships float by.
We very much look forward to our next visit and want to thank Su and Clare for sharing their home with us!
