First off we live relatively nearby, my wife had wanted to stay here when we were married 6 years ago. Being as it was so nearby there was no way we were going to spend the money to stay 20 miles away. 6 years later my wife planned our anniversary and we were going to the resort. Before checking in we drove to the golf course and I knew if the resort was anything like the clubhouse we were going to be in for a weekend. We checked in approximately 45 minutes early, we went to our room with King bed and Canal view and were blown away. Super clean and all you could ask for, we decided to go walk the grounds that were immaculate even in late winter. We went to the bar for drinks and dinner, service was top notch and so was the food. The next morning we had breakfast in the restaurant it was also super, we had oatmeal and scones. I am not a fan of either but I loved them both, the scones are made fresh when you order them what a treat. We would definately return in the future.

Room Tip: You can not go wrong with a canal view room. The grounds are nice to view but you can't beat the water view.

The first time I stayed it was for a work-related purpose and I couldn't wait to go back and take my husband for some romance. Unfortunately, we picked a very loud time of year, with the tree-lighting ceremony and young children around during the holidays. However, it was still a great time. It's a beautiful place to relax. Also, we were able to bring our french bulldog and she got her picture taken on Santa's lap, which was really fun.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The restaurant has an excellent menu and the staff is great. I loved the hotel cats that hang around the lobby. I'm looking forward to enjoying the spa on my next visit.

Our families stayed for a long weekend for a business/family vacation. The cottages adjacent to the resort are great and the view and natural environment are gorgeous! My kids and I caught hundreds of fish (all released) right off the docks in front of the resort on Puget sound. The food was unreal and the staff is super friendly. can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Rooms near the grass, picnic, barbecue area are great for large family gatherings.

The Alderbrook resort sits on highway 106 in Union, on the Hood Canal of the Olympic Penninsula. It consists of a main lodge and cottages. It has all the Northwest comfort, trees, water, and clean air. We had only stayed at the main lodge once in the many times we had stayed here. The jewel of this resort is the cottages. When our kids were young, we'd rent the 2-bedroom cottages, bringing our own food and preparing it daily in the fully-equipped kitchen. Now that our kids are in college, we rent the one-bedroom cottage, just the two of us. We cooked in both the kitchen, and availed ourselves of the outdoor propane BBQ. (There are two). We stay only during off-season or for specials- the on-season prices are too high for this economy. We are on their email list and wait for specials, and if one is good, we go for it. The restaurant is fine, comfortable, and the food is good, but over-priced for what you get. One could find oneself saving at the main lodge for a small room, but easily exceeding the budget for 3 meals a day at the restaurant.

The spa is fantastic; my wife had two treatments spread over two of the three days we stayed there. Unlike the restaurant, the spa prices are competative with other spas out there, and often there are packages that include spa discounts, or sometimes there are spa discounts just because.

Though we were here for pleasure, both of us had a little business; the internet was fast and never "threw us off" like other hotels' internet services have done to us in the past. It was available throughout the cottage wherever we decided to work.

We heartily recommend this resort; though we've stayed only off-season, one can see that there are lots to do on the water in-season, as we walked along the deserted dock and closed boat rental houses- the calm before the summer storm. Their motto is right- "get away without going away". For us it is a mere 37 miles; for Seattlelites the trip is longer, but worth it.

Room Tip: Select the cottages if you don't mind cooking your own meals. Save the restaurant for a special occasion.
