We arrived too late for the guided tour, so we followed the recommended self-guided tour. We made our way through the building, visiting the legislative chambers, the rotunda and the portraits and sculptures.
In the House chamber the Sergeant-at-Arms gave us an impromptu tour of the House and info about the building. We got to talk to a couple of the Representatives.
This building's dome is more decorated than most we have visited.

We did the tour of the capital building because we really love the history associated with the building. The tour was pretty informative and nicely put together. The building is under construction so not everything was there to view.

I love WV and it’s state capital but I am giving a low rating due to the fact that I do not feel like it belongs to the people anymore. I hate the fact there a tight security checks. If you do not mind that it is a lovely structure to visit.

Even with security a high concern, we were treated very well and was able to sit in the gallery on the house end for a bit to see our state government in action. It was a great experience.

Beautiful building inside and out. Stopped by on a Sunday and after viewing the memorial, we went to State Capitol. The public entrance was easy to find, clearly labeled. Being Sunday- there were no tours, but security let us in to look around.
We were not the only ones there. 6 other people also were walking about and looking at the pictures, the impressive marble, the Governor's office doors.
Do wish they offered tours on Sunday- seeing as that in that the 1 hour we were there- we saw so many other people come through.
