My husband is unable to walk and uses a manually powered wheelchair. He faced many "inconveniences" during our stay. There is only one "curb cut" in a very large parking lot, it is not conveniently located and it is a steep on the left and right. It was tricky to use since you needed to take an immediate right to get to the entrance around the corner. The room is tight. There is very little room between the bed and the dresser and not enough room on one side of the bed for the wheelchair to roll next to it. The handheld shower head must be "switched" above the regular shower head, a wheelchair user not traveling with a companion would not be able to switch from the main shower head to the hand held. The hand held shower head put out a "trickle" of water, there was not enough pressure for it to spray out of the head, it just kind of ran down the front if you held it vertical. There was a nice fold out bench. The bathroom was recently updated, it had nice tile and granite counter tops and tiled floors and shower. The furniture and carpet in the room seemed new and nice looking, however the carpet was damp and there was a musty smell in the room and halls. This musty/moldy smell was even stronger in other areas of the building. Our view was of a stair case which ended right at our sliding door, anyone using the stairs had no choice but to look in our room, we kept the curtains shut.

There are stairs throughout the entire resort and very few options for a wheelchair user that were incredibly inconvenient, long and sometimes steep. The elevator to the breakfast restaurant broke after we were finished with breakfast and we were told all other exits had stairs. The manager of the restaurant and another employee had to carry my husband and his wheelchair up the stairs. The elevator remained out of order for the rest of our 2 day stay. The following morning I "bumped" my husband down the stairs and then he was "carried" back up again. I would have called for room service, but who want to eat in a musty room?

I would not recommend this hotel to people with mobility issues. They appear to only have done what is legally required and have not thought about what people really "need". I would also not stay here if you have severe asthma that is triggered by mold. It is obvious this hotel has a major problem with mold, my kids walked through certain areas of the hotel holding their noses yelling about the "stinky smell".

The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean (the mold is a structural problem, not a housekeeping issue)

I am sure it would be a fine place for people who can walk depending on what room you were in for a nice view etc...

We are long time visitors to The Abbey. We came for our first weekend trip as a family of three because we knew our baby would love the kid friendly pool. While the entrance to the resort, and the grounds, are beautiful, the rooms and common areas, are in need of some updating. There was a strong mold and mildew smell, and most areas are in need of a good cleaning and some fresh paint. With that said, the pool did not disappoint, it is very family friendly, and overall, we had a great weekend. I hope the resort goes through renovations soon because we enjoy coming and would like to return again next year. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.

We stayed at The Abbey for a one night getaway. Upon entering our Harbor View King room, we immediately noticed a musty, moldy scent. The ceiling was covered in water damage. There had been recent storms, but most of the damage appeared to be old and poorly fixed. There was some newer damage that left pieces of the ceiling on the bed. We called and were quickly moved to new room. We requested Harbor View because we were excited to sit on their balcony and enjoy the view. (I did not realize that the balconies are shared-no dividers) We opened our door to head out and my husband fortunately stopped us before we walked into a giant spider web. I am terrified of spiders. The entire balcony was covered in webs (old and new) and was just disgusting. I understand it is Wisconsin and on water so there are going to be bugs. But they should be sweeping out webs so that guests are not walking through them. Seriously, this web was from the middle of our door frame to the top of the balcony. It was huge. We showed the concierge who had brought us to our new room and she said it would be taken care of. We told her we would be out for a bit so there was no rush. Well, I guess she took that "no rush" very literally because when we left the next day, it still had not been touched.
On a positive note, the bartender at Waterfront was great and we had a nice time there!

My husband and I stayed at The Abbey for a little getaway last week. I cannot tell you how many times we saw people who were part of company groups get served and catered to right away in areas which where open to the "public." . This is not a resort that values regular folks. I guess we aren't as financially impressive as the companies that spend much more money. I suppose we should have read all the Trip Advisor reviews prior to booking here. Having a staff member require the GUEST to contact them to discuss our stay further is just lazy. No, Abbey responder, we won't be doing that. Find a smaller, more guest friendly place to go. That's our plan!

Thank you for your review. We are very disappointed to read you were not satisfied with your stay. This is not the level of service we strive provide as we want all guests to feel valued whether they are here with a group or on vacation. Unfortunately TripAdvisor does not give us the option to contact you directly other than through this online response platform - which does not provide your actual name, stay date or email. That is the reason why we provide our contact email in responses (info@theabbeyresort.com) as we want to address your concerns and improve our overall experience. Additionally, if you submitted your email address upon check-in, you will also receive a post stay survey from us. If by chance you are still on property, we encourage to contact the front desk manager to share your concerns. We would welcome the opportunity to make this right. Thank you again for sharing your review.
