My wife and I have stayed in this area of Milwaukee on numerous trips in the past and decided to stay at the Astor for the very first time and it will definitely be our last! Our room was extremely hot and had no thermostat in it to control the temp. The front makeshift desk solution to fixing this problem was to put in two small and noisy room fans! Besides being a sweat box the entire night, our room and bed was very small and very outdated. Worst of all, not one mention was made on the Hotel's website or during our booking process that the hotel main lobby, bar and restaurant were all closed for renovations. Definitely felt that Hotel management blindsided us on this and should have informed us of this in advance of our making a reservation to stay on their property. We are hopeful that others will read this review first and then use caution in making any decision to make the Astor Hotel in Milwaukee be their first choice of stay!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 8th floor and found elevator service and free wifi service to be extremely slow.

If you're looking for a modern hotel with all the amenities, this isn't for you. However, if you're looking for a really neat historic place with small but nice rooms, clean as possible for a place this old, friendly staff, cool common areas and a decent price downtown, check this place out. Was able to find on-street parking right across from the hotel, and it's free on weekends.

I got a room for US$70 per day for a 7 days booking. Seems OK for the price paid. Hotel has been awarded with Heritage status and it shows on every front. If Nostalgia is what you are looking for, look no further. Rooms are of good size & kept clean, service can be made better. There are good eating joints around and Metro market as well. They have a free shuttle service as well.

I probably wouldn't stay here again. Rooms were very small. No air conditioning and there was an odor that wasn't very appealing. I understand its a landmark, but they could still update. The lobby was beautiful thou. Also, they advertise and lounge, but we couldn't go in because there was a private party.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

We stayed here for NYE since all other hotels were sold out. That should have been our first clue.

1. Walls are paper thin - be prepared to hear other people "celebrating."
2. Smells like mold and we were unable to open the windows to air out room.
3. Parking! You have to pay for parking, but they oversell the lot. We came back late after NYE only to find no spaces were available. We roamed around for 30 minutes to find parking.
4. We listened to two people fight for some time at 2 AM called the front desk and they did nothing.

Some of this was due to NYE but you couldn't pay me to stay here again.
