“Feb 26-28 stay”
Reviewed 29 February 2012

We had a mostly good experience at this hotel the past two nights, despite an inconvenient beginning. We arrived to check in @ 4:00-4:15. The registration area was literally "packed" full of people, so much so that people were backed up outside the front registration area doors. We decided to go do something for @ an hour, and returned shortly after 5:00. There was still a line in the registration area, but at least it was no longer out the front doors. It took approx 30-45 minutes to get through the registration check-in. We had the Great Escape package, as did approximately 600 other guests (which is why there was a huge back up). While we waited to check-in, we were provided with beer, which was part of the package.

We had booked a Junior Suite, which was very nice. Our suite overlooked the Wisconsin River and had a nice balcony. It was quite windy, so we didn't stand out on the balcony very long, but it was a beautiful view nonetheless. Only complaint we had regarding the room was that the shower head could have been better. The room was quiet, clean and everything functioned appropriately.

Regarding the Waterpark, to be fair, we're not big waterpark people, but we were both a little disappointed in what was available at the park. We tested out the water, and found it to be fairly cool. The indoor hot tub was warm, but not as hot as we would have liked.

We did go into the outdoor hot tub, which was really nice and warm. It was refreshing having the cool air from the shoulders up. The only complaint we had regarding the outdoor hot tub was that it wasn't peaceful. The hot tub was full both times we went in, and there were a number of loud people, some of which were drunk and obnoxious.

Part of our package included meals at the Fresh Market Buffet. I'll review that under restaurants as well as Kaminski Brothers Chophouse.

We would stay at this hotel again.

Like others have said, the room was nice. It was clean, had a great set-up with pull out couch and small deck. Room had microwave and small refrig. Bathroom was clean but small. Our room overlooked the back side of the property which is wooded and sort of pretty. It also is where the outdoor hot tub is located-full of convention going, noisy partiers until it closed promptly at 10PM.
The overloud, noisy, over-crowded public areas and parking lot seem to be an ongoing and continuing problem I have been at Chula before and have watched as it continues to grow...and grow and grow without a really solid plan to accomodate all the growth. Parking is horrendous. While they have added parking as the place has expanded, the odds of getting a space even remotely close to your entrance are slim to none. This makes for long walks carrying lots of stuff, which is no fun when it's warm and can be really miserable in cold Wisconsin winters.
The line and service just to get a coffee in the lobby cafe on a Sunday morning was crazy. I finally gave up, returned to my room and settled for in-room coffee alone. The night time noise was worse than it has ever been on previous visits. Lots of 2AM and 3AM traffic in the hallways is hard for hotels to control. There is a security staff and I understand that they can't be in all places at all times. But noise and rowdy crowds just seem to be more prevalent than ever before.
Check in was the one place where lines moved fairly quickly. But even the lobby space is limited compared to the overall size of the resort. As the resort and number of rooms have grown, the lobby size and number of attendants has remained the same. So the lines just continue to grow.
The waterpark is what you would expect. Big, crowded, less than great food in any of the waterpark eateries, long searches for tubes that are available.
For the cost, I don't plan on returning. Seems like this may be a case of a resort being a victim of their own success. I remember it when it was small and kind of simple. Now it has tried to become the "wisconsin dells experience." Unfortunately it has missed some planning steps along the way.

First the positive: The room was very clean, big, and a great set-up.

The negatives: One elevator down, so we had to wait forever to get our bags and stroller to the 6th floor. The was not even close to enough parking for all the guest rooms. After driving around and around, we (and many other people) were forced to park on the muddy grass. The waterpark is nice but was so increadibly crowded that you can hardly move. And they seem to have reduced the amount of tubes available for the lazy river. Last year it was great, but I see that they have now sold bracelets to all the other hotels around so their guests were there too. Got a snack at the cafe by the park and the fries were so stale I could hardly eat them. And their computer was down, so we had to wait around before we could pay for them. Finally, the great buffet that USED to include crab legs didn't anymore... despite the fact that the in-room resort guide said it did. We went anyway and then two members of our group had "stomach issues" the rest of the night. All this for a higher price than last year.

We stayed one night here in February, 2012. I would say that the experience was just so so. My wife and I stayed here with our teenage son and his friend. We are regular customers of The Wilderness and Kalahari, so we were looking forward to trying something new. Check-in was slow and inefficient, but that's Pretty much on par for all of the Dells' waterpark resorts. Not sure why that is and why the places can't improve in this area, but it is what it is, I guess.

Chula Vista was a very clean and nice resort. The indoor waterpark was nice, although somewhat small compared to others in the area, but our teenagers had a great time there.

My wife and I went to Kaminski Brothers' steakhouse for dinner. This restaurant is in the resort, and was a great choice for dinner.

Our bad experience during the stay was with a pizza we ordered from the onsite pizza restaurant, Luigi's. We ordered the pizza for the kids at about 10:30 at night, and were told it would be delivered to the room in about 30 minutes. After about an hour, the pizza hadn't arrived. No big deal. My son called the restaurant, and the person who answered told him to hang on while they checked on the pizza. Then they hung up on him. Ok, give them the benefit of the doubt. He called back, and the same thing happened a second time. Now I was pissed, so I tried calling them, but nobody would answer the phone. Anyway, the pizza never arrived, and it was too late to order from another place. The kids ended up eating late night donuts and beef jerkey.

Bottom line is that it was an ok stay. Had a fabulous dinner, a good time at the water park, and a terrible experience with the pizza people. I think we still prefer the Wilderness and the Kalahari, but if a good room deal at Chula Vista shows itself in the future, we'd probably try it again.

I stayed in a 2BR/2BA condo last month. The room was very spacious, had a full kitchen (though some of the plates/silverware were missing), and there was a hot tub right in the room! It also had 2 fireplaces, 1 in the master bed and 1 in the living room. The indoor water park had some great water slides, and a nice lazy river, but I wish it had an actual pool. It is a large resort, so be prepared to walk, but you can get to any part of it without going outdoors. My fiance used the Spa and loved it. Furniture in the living room is not very comfortable. It is about a 5-10 minute drive to town with all the bars, so no walking there. And the buffet dinner was excellent! I would definitely stay here again.
