Meandering along the coast driving north on the Big Island of Hawaii you can’t help but find yourself in Hawi. The hub of a now defunct sugar industry, Hawi is a great place to lounge sightsee and even better - eat. We parked, walked into Bamboo, a restaurant and a gallery of local art and crafts. It was time for lunch, plenty of room tables don’t crowd each other, full bar and very pleasant and attentive staff made our repast relaxing and filling. Starting with Mojito’s we enjoyed a most pleasant lunch. The daily special was Ono (Wahoo) a flaky and delicate local fish served up grilled for sandwiches or plated in a steak form. Great salads, quesadilla, stir fry’s and Chicken Sate Pot Stickers makes choosing difficult. We went through our first round of Mojito’s deciding! With a bit of a glow from a great meal we walked the gallery checking out several local artists’ work. You should try to work a meal at Bamboo into your plans when you are in Hawi, Bamboo’s motto is "Everyone should leave the building smiling!" We did!
