This was a lovely stay, even on a rainy day, adds a sense of tranquility and mystique. The rooms are nicely furnished in Asian style (with furniture from China), and the housekeepers do a splendid job in keeping the place so spotless and orderly, I got really careful walking around in case I knock anything over. The breakfast is just marvelous! There's waffles, daily fruits, free range eggs, bagels, and other local produce, served in the dining room or the patio. Lea is such a darling and makes you feel so welcome.
I stayed in the Orchid room and while we can't see the waterfall, we can hear it. It's not too loud unless you are very sensitive. It gets pretty cold at night even without airconditioning.

If you arrive in the evening, you can find instructions on the notice board. Lenny the owner is quite a grumpy guy but his wife is very warm. The only bad thing about this place, as many reviewers have pointed out, is the drive in. It takes about 10min or more to drive the 5miles of dark road, some parts dirt and bumpy. There are parts that are so dark and narrow, you'll be startled when you see another car and have to swerve or reverse to let them pass. But once you have reached the property (especially on a cool morning after the rain), you will feel like you have arrived in heaven, with sweet chirping birds, soothing sound of the water, expansive greenery and awesome view of Hilo down below.

Given the limited choices Hilo has to offer, I think the Inn is the best option for a nice surrounding and super clean rooms with excellent breakfast.

Room Tip: The rooms in Harmony house probably can't see the waterfall. Some in Residence would.

My husband and I spent nine nights in the Harmony House in the Pikake room. Our room was beautiful, clean, and completely relaxing...our home away from home. Our Inn Keeper Lea gave that extra touch to make our stay even more special she added a zen feel to our mornings and she was very attentive. Lea was very knowledgeable of the island and all the places she recommended were wonderful. The house was beautiful, comfortable and a very peaceful and relaxing experience, I will be recommending it to anyone I know that plans on visiting the Big Island. The grounds at Kulaniapia Falls are so beautiful, we enjoyed our walks on the trails and around the grounds. The views of the bay are beautiful along with the surroundings of the Inn. The drive up to the Inn was a single lane road through very scenic farms, we live in the country on the mainland so we are used to these types of roads, those who come from the city I would recommend driving up the first time in the day light so it isn't that intimidating. Once you have done the drive and find the Inn you will very much appreciate the drive to sanctuary. Going to the Big Island??? Stay Here!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Pikake in the Harmony House wonderful view of the fall and the sound of the fall wa...

The Inn at Kulaniapa falls is a beautiful hidden paradise. The gardens are lush and well tended and the epitome of what one thinks of when thinking of Hawaii. As i meandered the property all i could think of is that the owners tend to it as a labor of love The waterfall is stunning and since we stayed in the Maille room we had the waterfall right outside our terrace. Breakfast is a lovely treat of fruit eggs and waffles. There is no reception area so to speak and this is a bit of a no frills place as there was really no place to our buy a drink or bite in the afternoon. In fact we never even met the owner and one is directed to his or her room by a white board in front of the main bouse But one goes to the Inn for the setting, which really is among the most extraordinary that this travelor has ever experienced.

Room Tip: When booking ask Len which rooms look out at the waterfall. It Will lull you to sleep

My husband and I stayed here for about a week. We stayed in the orchid room the first half of the week. It was fantastic! The bed has dual remote control firmness settings. The room is faceing just the right way to enjoy the cold breeze at night. No air conditioner needed. There are two main window in this room. One will allow the night breeze in and the Other is facing towards the waterfall ( you can't see it but you can hear it). The other rooms downstairs either face the parking lot or Only have one window that doesn't let the breeze in very well. The other half of our stay we were in the maile room. This room was great as far as the view. You can step outside your balcony and see the waterfall! The bed was a bit firm for my taste and this room does not allow the breeze to come in as easily. The drive up to the inn is very long and curvy (maybe about 15mints) It is a beautiful drive though. The inn keeper made fantastic breakfast and was awesome. Would stay again

This b and b is about a 15 minute drive from downtown Hilo, down a meandering mostly one lane road. The drive itself is magnificent and relaxing, but it will not prepare you for the beauty of the property itself. The waterfall is just stunning, and both times we swam at the base of the waterfall and hiked the adjacent trails we had the whole place to ourselves. Truly paradise! Rooms are nice, and far better than the last hilo hotel i stayed at in the past. Breakfast is cooked to order, and served in a nice common area. The beauty of the property is that despite the relaxing and isolated location, you can easily drive into Hilo commercial area for a nice dinner. If you don't mind staying out of town, this is a must!

Room Tip: Call and ask for a waterfall view room.
