I was told that all the hotels on the Hilo side are only 3-star hotels, so I didn't expect much. The hotel is kind of dated, but I found the room spacious and clean. The only thing was that the comforter was kind of thin. The hotel was less an hour drive to the Volcanoes National Park. It is also close to the Rainbow Falls and the Akaka Falls.

The concierge Melanie is super. She made our trip so much fun. She was funny to talk to and was very knowledgeable about all the places on the east side of the Island. She gave us great itineraries for our 3-day stay there. Even after we moved to the Kona side for the second part of our trip, she responded to our messages inquiring about restaurants and spas on the Kona side.

The hotel gave us discount vouchers to eat at its buffet restaurant. We tried the breakfast buffet. The food was not worth the money, even with the discount. (Although the breakfast buffet at the Sheraton we stayed at on the Kona side was even worse!)

Room Tip: At least 4th floor up, facing ocean/Hilo Bay

We booked a five night stay here and i must say the ocean view room definitely saved our vacation. It poured five out of the six days we were there, even had flash flood warning for the area. So we spent a lot of time in our room and the hotel ground. It was quite something sitting in the balcony watching the rain and the wave hitting the bay.

Room is clean and tidy. Decor is modern, comfortable, and well lit with five lamps in the room. Staff is friendly. The hallway and the lobby area are always clean. Laundry room is clean too and machines were working fine.

Note: Both washer and dryer take 8 quarters per load.

Room Tip: Ocean view is definitely worth the money.

Very nice staff easy check in, and lovely room. Very clean and modern. The very best views of Hilo Bay, nice view of city lights and mountains. Expecting High winds tonight so staff came and put balcony furniture inside. Not a big deal as the room is large. Would stay here again, maybe when weather improves.

Thin walls and ceiling...noisy till around 11pm then picked up at 9am. Ac fan sounds like a jet engine so turned off. Didn’t really need it due to storm outside so room stayed cool. Large room and great lanai will awesome harbor views!

We were greeted with smiles at check in, a classic Hawaiian open air lobby. Our ocean view room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet is excellent in our opinion. The entire hotel staff had a good vibe. We were there for 4 nights and are returning for 6 more in January 2018. Thank you, Tom & Iris
