We stayed at this B&B in 2011 with kids. Although we read amazing reviews, we didn't really feel very welcomed.....not sure if it's because of our young children (8 and 9 at that time), but we are used to travel over the world and they are usually quiet and nice. We are not very difficult travelers and I don't know if we arrived during a bad day, but now we're considering travelling back in the area and we're definitely not going back to this place.
Rooms were clean, food was ok, pool and location were great.

We enjoyed our stay at Art and Orchids. When initially reading the description of the place as have island breeze A/c we were apprehensive for our June visit. We were please to find the room a comfortable temperature. We did fine it hot once or twice but we ran the fan for about an hour and we ready to go to bed and turn the fan off. The breakfast were delicious and satisfying, served daily by Markie they typically featured fresh fruit from the garden, scrambled eggs, sausage, bread, macadamia nut granola, cereal, coffee, milk and orange juice. Markie was a wonderful host and provide us with a tour of the garden and daily travel suggestion. This was a nice in between point to see the waterfalls and Volcanoes. The roads to the B&B are rough but if you follow the directions Markie and Jerry provide you & your rental car will be fine. If you want to route to it with your GPS set your GPS to route to the corner of KEAAU-PAHOA RD AND POHAKU PL (N19 34.550 W155 00.204) and once you arrive route to the physical address of the B&B and you will always be on a good road.

Art and Orchid's was a very nice bed and breakfast. Our room was a very nice size, with a private bathroom. Breakfast was very tasty! The grounds were full of flowering plants, and a nice swimming pool.
The owners were very nice people, with a lot of helpful information about the area. We stayed there because we were taking a Lava Boat Tour early the next day. The bed and breakfast was relatively close to the boat dock.
Lonely Planet recommend this place in their Big Island book.
The only down side is the roads to Art and Orchids were not in great shape. The street they are located on is gravel.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the Rainbow room. They do have a larger unit on the first floor.

We enjoyed our two night stay with Art & Orchids. Here are some of the things about the place that made it special:
- The room was spacious, clean and well provisioned. A little balcony and lots of windows made it bright and airy.
- Markie, our hostess was gracious, helpful with information, and a great cook - the scrambled eggs for breakfast were delish - and she's a master gardener!
- The tropical forest setting was a treat - lots of beautiful plants and flowers to photograph, and the jungle sounds in the evening were exotic and unlike anything you'd hear in a regular garden.
- The proximity to a couple of natural wonders - the Kapaho Tide Pools and the Kalapana lava flows - made it an ideal choice to use as a base for exploring what Puna has to offer.
- Art & Orchids is only a few miles from Pahoa village which has an eclectic mix of shops and services and a variety of dining options. We chose to have dinner at Kaleo's, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Our 5 days at Arts and Orchids gave us the nicest of Hawaii experiences. Delicious hot breakfasts and extremely helpful input from our friendly hosts each morning ...a great way to start each day's adventure. This location was tucked away in its natural setting and at the same time was perfect jumping-off point for us to easily reach all parts of the island. We thoroughly enjoyed our rooms, which were comfortable in every way and unique, with beautiful interesting furnishings and handcrafted artistic features.
