We are locals and live in Waikoloa Village. We explore the island often, and were looking for a place to stay near Southpoint. This is such a cute little cottage, very quiet and serene. Iris was so nice and her breakfast she brought us in the morning was wonderful! We will be back! :-)
My husband and I stayed at the Hideaway Cottage in November and had a wonderful time. The location is perfect although the cottage is properly named! One has to drive down a long unpaved road to get to the property but it's well worth it.
Iris was the perfect host, we enjoyed her wonderful breakfasts and she was always available to provide us with useful information on area attractions.
We hope to get back there one day, thank you Iris.
My husband and I stayed 5 nights here for our honeymoon and fell in love with this secluded cottage!!! We were looking to really explore the big island, and this was the perfect place for that! The cooler, snorkeling gear, maps, and guidebooks that are included with the cottage were priceless on our adventures, and Iris provided helpful tips on routes, restaurants, and the places really worth seeing. Plus the location in Kau meant that we were within a 1-2 hour drive of all the places we wanted to go (Volcano NP, Hilo, and the Kona coast). Being on our honeymoon, we wanted a special and romantic experience, but were also on a real budget. Staying in this cottage, we felt so pampered! Iris brought us a fresh, delicious breakfast and real Kona coffee every morning on the lanai, wine glasses so that we could enjoy some champagne, and binoculars when we mentioned we were hoping to spot some whales. In the middle of the night, it was so absolutely silent. Waking up every morning to the sound of the birds and the lush garden without another soul in sight, we felt as if we were in some four-star resort reserved only for us! After we left here, we spent two nights at the Sheraton Kona Resort, and I have to say that we were so spoiled from our time in this lovely cottage, that in comparison the Sheraton seemed crowded and hokey. I truly cannot recommend this place enough for anyone looking to get away from crowded resorts and really explore the big island. Especially if you are on a budget, you truly cannot beat the experience you get here for the price! Thank you Iris so much for everything - we hope to be back before too long!
