I can see people either loving this resort and others not liking this resort as much. It really all depends on which location (building) you stay. We did research prior to booking our vacation and it's clear that the majority of the complaints come from people that stay in Ocean Tower. We stayed in the Makai at Lagoon Tower. It costs more than the other two locations but it's well worth the extra money. We had great views of the ocean as well as the dolphins.

We loved the Kona pool (biggest pool I've ever seen) and with the Makai level we had access to additional lounge chairs and a separate area. The Lagoon is great too! We did not use the other two pools but the pool at Ocean Tower seemed very small. The Ocean Tower area did not look very nice. There isn't much shade at the Kona pool unless you rent chairs (I think $100 per day for 2) that have canopies. The Makai area has 3 canopy tents that fit 4 chairs each so each day I went to the pool early to place our towels and other pool items to reserve those chairs. Otherwise, you'll spend all day in the hot sun which can become uncomfortable. They definitely need to have more free shaded areas. FYI: I think they are closing the Kona pool on 8/20 - 9/30 for maintenance.

The grounds of the resort are immaculate and our hotel room was updated, clean and spacious. Good eating options but be prepared to spend $100 per meal including tip for a family of 4.

We had a rental car and drove about 6 minutes to the beach area by Lava Lava Beach Club. Very nice area as well - we had lunch and dinner at Lava Lava which was great too.

Overall, we had an amazing vacation and would definitley stay here again.

expect to pay an extra $77 per night on top of what you are being charged for the room. It is $37 for parking and a mandatory $40 resort fee. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! The rooms were also very noisy. We heard birds, screaming kids, people running down the hall literally all night. We wanted to cancel but we would have had to pay a $100 cancellation fee. We tried to print our boarding passes before returning to the airport and the printer was not working. The staff were rude to us and the valet parking staff was very slow and acted irresponsibly. NEVER STAY HERE

Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry that we fell short in providing you the service you deserved and that our resort and parking fees added to your frustration. We disclose all fees on our website and through our reservation process. The time taken along with the effort made to share your comments is most appreciated.

Aloha,

If you've got a rental car, leave it with the valets and because they are local experts, they can give you advice on restaurants and sites to see when they bring your car up. The resort itself gives you very little reason to have to leave but there is an entire island to explore and one must get to the local joints to experience the Big Island! Great spot with great service in a resort setting that is really quite nice.

Room tip: Ocean view rooms are worth the expense.

This hotel is too big ! But if you want visit this area of Big Island is the best ! For the children is like a paradise, you can do snorkling with out waves, look the delphins ( swim fromn 165 $ for 10 minutes : CRAZY !) MANY POOLS boats and also metrò to go around, beautiful landscape with Budda point, and a wonderful walking to go around on the cost to Marriot and to the end of the beach: this you cannot forget !
I hate big hotels...so for me isn't so nice !

Room tip: too many kids everywhere

Our hotel is 62 acres with your choice of three Towers to choose from, so I do see how it can be overwhelming. We do host many families with children, and we have lots of things to see and do on our property, but checking in to our hotel doesn't mean you have to see and do everything. Lagoon Tower is a section of our hotel with many shopping outlets, Kohala Spa, a large pool and hot tubs, several restaurants, and its own coffee shop. This tower is close to the front desk and to our parking lot. Lagoon Tower offers every amenity we have with no reason to ever visit the other towers. It is lovely to see it all, but not necessary. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback from your recent stay.

We were quite happy with the accommodations. Ocean tower had beautiful view (upgraded room). Hotel amenities were extensive and clean. Hilton obviously has an overt devotion to hospitality, amenities, and customer service.
