“Breathtaking Views, Cozy Unit...”
Reviewed 9 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We stayed in Poipu Palms, unit #303, from August 30-September 6. Reviews of the unit were impressive and we weren't disappointed.

First of all, The Parrish Collection handles the rentals and they are very attentive and efficient. They even delivered our welcome packet and keys to the rental car desk at the Lehue airport which made our check-in seamless (but be sure to ask the rental car attendant for the packet as they will not volunteer it!).

Directions to the unit were easy. Parking was excellent, as there is on-street parking right at the stairs OR off street parking just a few more steps away.

Our first impression as we walked into the unit was two-fold: WOW (the view), and Whew (the humidity and heat of the unit before we got fans going and windows open). There is no air conditioning in this unit, but then very few dwellings on Kauai seem to have this luxury due to trade winds and such. Actually, I rather prefer this as I always seem to catch a cold going from the natural heat outside to the machine-generated cold inside!

The unit is somewhat small but compact and spacious at the same time. As you enter the unit the first of two bedrooms is directly on the left, which means the window looks out on the street. This two-twin bedroom was always cool and comfortable. It has its own bathroom and a spacious closet.

As you proceed down the hall the room opens up to a cozy livingroom, dining room, partially open kitchen, and spacious lanai with the most spectacular view. The second bedroom, or master, I guess you'd call it, as it has a queen bed, is right off the dining room and is open. Plantation sliding doors shut it off from the dining room if you choose to close them. We kept them open to invite the breeze in, with the help of one of two standing fans available to us (look for one in each bedroom closet). We did keep those fans out and blowing most of the time.

The unit has most of the creature comforts of home, including a washer/dryer in the closet in the kitchen, a small stove, a dishwasher, and an oven. There is a blender, too, as well as a toaster. Be sure to bring your own laundry detergent as there is only one packet there to start you off. There are a couple rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom and a couple rolls of paper towels in the kitchen. There is dishwasher detergent under the sink, as well as liquid dishwashing soap and trash bags. Also, except for salt and pepper, there are no spices or seasonings, which would have been really appreciated. If you are going to have access to a kitchen it would be good to have basics for grilling and cooking, like garlic, seasoned salt, etc.

The unit comes with one small cooler and one set of snorkeling gear, but since the unit accommodates four, four sets of snorkles, masks, and fins would have made life a lot easier. There are folding chairs and other outdoor items in the closet out on the lanai.

We had a unique situation in that the week we were there the HOA scheduled repairs on the pool deck area that involved shutting down the pool altogether. We had conflicting information on just when this would start. The owner told me one date but a notice on our door said another. Supplies and such were to arrive on Wednesday but it sounded like the pool would be open throughout that day. However, bright and early Wednesday morning deconstruction on the deck began and by mid-morning much of the deck had been dismantled. Needless to say the pool was closed, and with it, the grill nearby which we'd planned to use throughout the week. However, when we made our reservations we got a reduced rate for part of the week due to the pool being out of commission. We just expected it a day later. We believe we still had a phenomenal value. That view is million-dollar quality.

As one reviewer pointed out, the unit is along a rocky part of the coast. The closest beaches are Ship Wreck, about ten minutes by trail in one direction, and Brennecke's Beach, which seems to be more family friendly, about five minutes' walk in the other direction.

We would definitely return to unit #303 at Poipu Palms. Don't expect cherry cabinets and high-end counters. Yes, appliances are stainless, but for the most part the place is your average rental furnishings, etc. HOWEVER, this unit is also decked out with spectacular views - sea turtles and dolphins graced the seascape - crashing waves to usher in sleep (except the sound only made us want to go out on the lanai and watch the moon shine on the water), and the scents of plumaria and other tropical flowers float on the air, making this a truly magical experience...

“Great View from the lanai”
Reviewed 24 April 2012 for a stay in April 2012

First time we used Parrish Collection Co. to book our stay in Poipu Palms and we were so pleasently surprised. We had a first floor unit (#101) and even though it was set back just a little, we had a great view of the ocean, sat on the lanai and watched the whales go by. Poipu Palms doesn't have too many units so it never felt crowded and the "community" deck was a great place to sit and look down at the sea turtles that hung around the shore. There is no beach or beach access, it's all very rocky but what a view! And there is a small pool at the Poipu Palms, too, so all in all it was a great place to stay. Full condo unit with all amenities you could ask for, they even had beach chairs & a cooler for you to use!
