Loved this resort! It’s small and luxurious. Every need is tended to. Upon arrival, you are taken on a tour of the property and to your room where you are given further information. We were each given a beautiful lei upon arrival as well. The room was lovely. The marble bathroom gorgeous . There is a complementary bottle of wine along with macadamia nuts in the room. It has an expression machine and at turndown service you are given bottled water and chocolates. Beautiful Oceanside property in sunny Poipu where luxury and customer service is number one.

We also choose this hotel based on reviews and 4 days in we are absolutely delighted and 100% satisfied with this resort. Koa Kea is on par with the Hawaiian Ritz and Fairmont properties where we have stayed.

Rooms have a very modern feel. Service is simply outstanding. The staff here truly goes out of their way to assist you. Their massages and yoga classes are top notch.

We were looking for a smaller, classy venue with an intimate feel to start our Hawaiian trip and the Koa Kea delivered. Highly recommended, particularly for couples.

We had a ocean front room with a 180 degree ocean view from our lanai around 40 feet or so from the water on upper level. It wasn't cheap but our thought was as we are elderly, this may be a one time shot. Who knows, Kauai has been calling ever since we left as it was hard to leave.
The hotel was just what we hoped for, small, quiet, beautiful, luxurious and 40 feet or so from the sea. We had no desire for a big resort with all the noise and long walks to get around. We were not disappointed there. The staff was great also.
A couple of things prevented this from being truly a knock-out stay. First the bed mattress was in need of replacement. It sagged and had seen it's day. It was not what one would expect from a high end hotel room costing $800 a night, taxes and fees included. We did not turn in a complaint as from other reviews I read Ko'a Kea's answer is to put a piece of plywood under the mattress. Also the built in wood furniture is old, scratched and needs to be replaced
The second issue was beach access. there is no actual sandy beach directly in front of the hotel. The shore is paved with large volcanic rocks, probably to prevent erosion. You can go left (east) for a good distance on a nice walkway past the next door mega-hotel and access a beautiful but crowded beach, or go right (west) to the end of Ko'a Kea property on the walk and down to a quieter sandy beach extending west in front of other hotels. The problem with the second option is that the beach access path is very narrow, through bushes and culminates in a final step down of about a foot and a half over a rock. Neither option is elderly friendly and the West option presents a hazard to anyone trying to go this way.
The hotel would not need to spend a lot of money considering what they take in to put in decent mattresses and construct a couple of steps to the beach with a hand rail. This would certainly go a long way toward moving my review to excellent.

An ocean front room which lived up to expectations and was just a stone’s throw away from the Pacific. All staff were very pleasant, friendly and helpful. Visited the restaurant several times and the food offered was good and the service was always excellent at both breakfast and dinner. Pool area was well staffed with plenty of options to do other things like surf lessons etc available. Overall a great few days

We chose this hotel based on other reviews that it was a small, quiet, upscale hotel and could not have been more pleased with our decision! Checking in was a breeze! We arrived at 11, check in was at 4. The hotel held our bags and said we could check out the area and they would call when our room was ready. We went out to the lawn and walked the beach for about 10 minutes before we got the call to come back! We were escorted to our room and reall happy with the accommodations, we are used to traveling with 3 kids, so our room seemed roomy for just the 2 of us! Breakfast was included with our hotel package, as was a tasting menu at their restaurant Red Salt. Breakfast was good, service was was great. The lobster Benedict was awesome, but my husband thought the steak and eggs were only okay. The value was great because breakfast (included with the stay) was one entree Plus the continental breakfast for each guest. The best part for me was the turndown service! Housekeeping came in the morning and by the time we came back from our daily excursion to get ready for dinner, our room had been refreshed and there was a bowl of ice with treats on our nightstand! The pool was small, but we really did not spend much time at the pool. We made nightly use of the hot tub to help with sore muscles from hiking and kayaking! It was just a great location and a beautiful hotel for us and we would definitely love to return (kid free!) again!
