Owner description: Located in Kihei on the south shore of Maui, the visitor center is an ideal spot to learn about the marine environment and even see humpback whales breaching. This scenic beachfront location at the foot of Haleakala has views of Kaho'olawe, Lana'i and West Maui looking across the waters of the sanctuary. Visitors to the new center inKihei will be able to learn about the efforts by NOAA, the State of Hawaii, and others to protect humpback whales, monk seals, sea turtles, and coral reefs.

Discovered this gem as we were staying nearby, by .chance, arrived just as one of the twice a week Humpback Whale talks were starting. Learned so very much about these amazing whales and kudos to the staff. Visited the rest of the center and talked with the staff who also explained the nearby fish pond and Hawaiian history. Check out their web site as times may change but currently Tuesday and Thursday at 1100

We stayed right across the street and checked out the free center. Hours were short but we managed to be there once. No whales had been sighted from shore for a few weeks but there were turtles sitting on the rocks outside. There was also a cool wall that was an old fishery for the Hawaiian people. A incredible place for little kids to swim!

The visitor center in Kihei, Maui was closed for renovations last year. It has re-opened with the same days and times- Monday thru Friday 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. It has a great whale presentation on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 AM. The visitor center outside deck has a stationary binocular that can be used to look for whales, turtles or people watch. It makes a great place to watch beautiful sunsets from. Be sure to talk the the wonderful docents in the center. You can also support their programs by purchasing something in the gift shop, operated by their partner the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation. Great fun will be had by all :)

Located in North Kihei and beside a public park; is this historic building along the water front of Kihei. They have educational stations for kids play and learning about marine life and our visiting whales. This is a very clean and well kept building. There are other buildings used as rented out meeting space. I have been to meetings and the space is great for meetings and gatherings. The entire property is nice and everyone has a lot of Aloha to share with you and your family.
