We stayed at Honau Kai for 4 days/3 nights of what was supposed to be a full week. On the 4th day of our vacation we noticed quite a few bugs in the room. My husband started investigating where they were getting in, moved the fridge and saw about 15 cockroaches scatter under the fridge. We contacted management immediately and were told someone would come "deep clean". We left for lunch, allowed the team to clean and seal, then upon returning inspected only to find the same amount of cockroaches around the fridge. It was so sickening we had to pack up our car and switch hotels with a baby mid vacation. Additionally, the hotel is not offering a refund at all! Horrible service, especially for the price. There are far too many places in Maui to stay in, keep looking!

After reading a lot of negative reviews about this resort, I am happy to report that we had a great time at Honua Kai in the Hokulani Building Unit 240. I was nervous about cockroaches and the overall cleanliness of the resort but our unit was very clean and no cockroaches! Some people complained about the WIFI in our unit but we found it worked perfectly fine. As did the washer/dryer. I was also concerned about renting from a management company rather than directly through the resort but KBM Hawaii was awesome! I had trouble with the coffee maker on the first morning and left a message on their customer service line. When we came back from our excursions at the end of the day, there was a brand new coffee maker sitting on the kitchen counter. Now that's customer service! They also give you a box of chocolate and a grocery bag upon check in. The free rental car is also a great perk! The resort was nice but my only complaint is that the pools are very small and got very crowded. We just went to the beach instead and watched whales and snorkeled. Just walk to your left a bit where the beach is bigger and the snorkeling is great. We also used the BBQ's and watched the sunset from the beach. I had also read complaints about the hallways and carpet being dirty. We saw some stains on the carpet but the building looked to be well maintained. While we were there, maintenance was touching up baseboards and painting doors.Having Duke's restaurant on site is also very convenient. The one odd thing about the resort is that they tell you that the pool towels are micro chipped and you will get charged $20 if you don't return them. We did not see any microchip on the towels and the towels were not very nice at all so I don't know why anyone would want to steal them! I would highly recommend this unit and KMB Hawaii!

Very clean, comfortable beds, spacious rooms, warm pools, friendly staff and great coffee. Everyone was quite helpful and the grounds are lovely at all hours. We spent a week mid February with our boys ages 4 through 9 and they loved the pools and the beach around HK. If staying in Kaanapali have no hesitation in staying at Honua Kai.
