Grounds and amenities were good enough, well maintained, but these are evidently condos owned by someone then rented out / managed by the hotel. Ours was dated, had issues with the doors being difficult to open, vanity falling apart at its sides, but was otherwise clean. Great view, especially of the whales! Kaanapali Shores is an excellent place to stay with extended family. I would highly recommend the hotel for anyone looking for a decent location with good amenities at a fair price. The hotel rooms could use a bit of an upgrade as it is looking older but we have not found a better alternative in the area.

Perfect location, generous living space in unit and the wrap around porch boasted amazing views of Molokai, lanai and everything in between. This was our second trip staying in the same unit. We will be back!

If you are looking for a truly mediocre experience, stay here. Here's why:
1) The rooms are simply tired and out of date. We stayed on the penthouse floor, and even our room was dusty (they provide no cleaning during the stay); had very dated styling; had a funky, unusable closet with left-over children's toys with someone else's dirty towels in it; and had TVs that were truly hard to operate.
2) The breakfast/beach restaurant food was virtually tasteless.
3) The concierge desk provides minimal service. They booked us for a bicycle ride but neglected to tell us that it would be all day before we returned, requiring an uncomfortable cancellation. They took several hours to tell us they could not get us a golf tee time, but when we stopped into another (nicer) hotel and asked their concierge, they got one for us at our desired course immediately.
4) The weekly craft show that they advertise is just as tired as the rest of the place.
5) The gym was closed, and they have no sand beach.
How this hotel maintains its four-star rating - or the prices they charge - is truly beyond me.

We stayed in 2 apts at the Aston Kaanapali in Jan 2022. While the rooms look a little dated (esp the living room and carpets), they were clean and had all the basic amenities one would want. Beds were comfortable. Due to Covid there was no housekeeping service, though the front desk freely gave us replacements for shampoo, soap, etc. The pools were great, there were plenty of chairs, etc. Only complaints are very minor: (1) not enough umbrellas by the adult pools, and (2) they allotted just 1 pool towel per person. The more family pool was the place to go if you wanted shade as there were more umbrellas and trees there. The restaurant served basic fare, but it was consistently good. Location is great and parking was easy every time.
We have no small kids but there were families with small children there and it would be a PERFECT place for them --- everything you'd want at a reasonable price. The restaurant closed at 8 or 9 pm, and the pool at 10pm, so we didn't hear any carousing outside at night (and we faced the garden/pool area) -- again making it a good, friendly choice for families with small children.

My daughters and I went for New Year’s Eve and had a great time. It is an older hotel, but kept up. We had a partial ocean view room and really enjoyed the beautiful view!! The friendly concierge helped us book a wonderful whale watching excursion. I called housekeeping a couple of times for odds and ends and the items were delivered very quickly. We enjoyed the pool every evening. We would go back, especially if they run any specials!
