My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights. We truly enjoyed our stay. We had read reviews stating that every room was individually owned and that decor was dependant on owners taste...our garden view studio (room 138) was perfect for our needs and very tastefully decorated. The studio was very clean and had a well appointed kitchen (it’s not a chef’s kitchen but all the basic equipment is there to make a decent meal), cleaning staff provided for fresh towels every day, we had fresh beach towels in the lobby daily and free coffee from 6 to 9 in the lobby every morning.
The beach is gorgeous and we had to portable beach chairs to use at the beach. Resort is well layed out and doesn’t feel crowded. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family.

I work in social media, so I am painfully aware of the number of complaints that come in and typically don't try to add to that. However, I am a little disappointed in our trip. We noted on our reservation that this was our honeymoon, but nothing about our stay at this hotel made it feel like that. from the moment we pulled in, we were not pleased. We pulled up and were very confused. With no one out front to greet us, we weren't sure if we needed to park somewhere (There were no open parking spots visible near the entrance), or just leave our car in the round-about. We left our car in the round about and walked up to the counter where we were not even greeted with a hello (or aloha). To be honest, one of the things I was looking forward to most was being greeted with a lei at the very least (it didn't even have to be fresh!). When I realized that wasn't something they did at this location, I brushed it off, figuring we'd get one eventually. The lady at the front desk, asked us our last name and then immediately our license plate number. We were obviously in a rental, so didn't have it on hand. She said it would be on our rental key, and when my husband went back to the car to get that, she was very judgemental about us leaving the key in the car while we were checking in. (Totally fair concern, just the way she was vocalizing it was very demeaning, ESPECIALLY after not even greeting us or even mentioning a quick "congrats" or something for being on our honeymoon.) She went through her intro and then just stopped talking. No asking if we had questions, etc. My husband said, "Ok thanks, is that it?" And she said "Yes, That's it!" again, no "Thank you", "enjoy your honeymoon", etc.

We got to our room, which was just fine and well kept. No issues there. We later learned, however, that my parents called the hotel asking to send a bottle of champagne to our room for our honeymoon while we were out for the day. Whoever they spoke to at the front desk immediately said "We don't do that.” offering no other information. When my parents asked if there were any other options, the person mentioned going through a third party. After a run around, they eventually were in contact with the gift shop where they asked if that person could choose a couple treats and champagne and deliver it to our room. This person mentioned that they could do that, but it would not be done that day. (The call was made in the morning as they opened and they were asking to have it delivered by that night). After some back and forth and a “delivery fee”, when we returned to our room we have a gift bag of chips, an apple, and a bottle of champagne. Just not very romantic or accommodating for someone on their honeymoon.

The other issue we had was with the activities. We wanted to rent a “cabana” which was actually just lounge chairs with pads, but they were all taken. So we asked about surf lessions/sailing lessons and were told the instructor was on vacation. Just kind of annoying.

And finally, we decided to have lunch at the cafe one day. We walked in and saw the sign that said “Please seat yourself” So we went and took a seat. One waitress yelled at us from 3 tables away “Are you guys eating with us?” We said yes and she answered with “Well, you need to check in at the front.” When we mentioned there had been a “Seat yourself” sign, she yelled at the hostess in a joking way “Ha! You set me up!” then looked back at us saying she’d bring us some menus. Just not a very good first impression or service.

Ultimately, our honeymoon in Hawaii was great, we just left wishing we had stayed at a different hotel. This might have been fine if we were here with our family, but for a romantic week this was NOT the place.

This was our first time here and we found it quite relaxing.
The room was huge for just two of us; two queen beds, a full kitchen and dining room as well as a pull out sofa. Big lanai but not much of a view and got the daytime sun so we stayed off of it.
Room decor is a bit dated, a little ‘old Hawaii’ but it was quaint and comfortable. Noted about four squashed bugs on the tile floor when we came in - not sure why housekeeping left them there and continued to do so for the full time we stayed (5 days).
What we loved: the free trolley that went between hotels, got us to Whalers Village and the Hyatt for a luau so we could drink. The main pool was fairly quiet, very few kids and we always found loungers. Having a full kitchen meant we could cook in the suite when we wanted which was nice as there’s really no restaurants other than the Castaway cafe - but we saved money this way. Most importantly it’s on an absolutely stunning stretch of beach!!
Hotel staff were incredibly courteous and helpful. There’s a well stocked general store in the lobby. We found this to be a relaxing, good value hotel.

Stayed here 3 nights in a premium room. Refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker but no sink!! Have to wash dishes in the bathroom sink!!! Bad planning. Also small bugs flying around. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. This place is way over priced!

This was my first time to Maui. My husband and stayed in a one bedroom suite (garden view)for 11 nights. The garden view suite was in the main tower, and actually had a partial ocean view which was a great surprise. We were looking for a relaxing getaway with a great beach... which was exactly what we got from this resort.

The room was HUGE, more like a condo with full kitchen and all amenities. This was great for us because we loved being able to make breakfast or lunch in our suite at our convenience (eating out 3 meals a day isn’t ideal for us). A grocery store is nearby, about a 15 minute walk to the north or 3 min drive.

We were upgraded to a premium suite which came with two queens instead of a king but that was ok. The beds and pillows weren’t the greatest but if you had a small family, this suite would be perfect. With the 2 queen beds and a pull out sofa, there is plenty of room! Daily cleaning service and all the fresh beach towels you need are provided by the front desk. Wifi is included in the daily resort fee, and was super reliable with great speeds. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

There is a beachfront restaurant onsite, which has a great vibe but just ok pub-like food. The restaurant is licensed for the pool area so you can buy drinks from the bar and drink them at the pool as well. We had a tough time getting decent bar service, but all wait staff were fantastic.

The resort had an original Maui charm to it- not huge like the others in the area. As a result it was pretty quiet, and there was always lounge chairs available by the pool. We went down for a swim/hottub most evenings and were often the only ones there. It was great because we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves!

The best part of this resort was the beach! This is a Beautiful beachfront resort with a great sandy beach - perfect for swimming and never too crowded. There is an activity centre where you can rent paddle boards/kayaks etc but we mostly just swam and relaxed.

Finally, the resort has a concierge that can efficiently book any activity you wish. We booked a luau (next door at the Royal Lahaina) and a snorkel tour with Quicksilver (which was awesome and will do a separate review for). A free trolley comes about every 30 min or so and will take you into whalers village where you can shop or grab a bite to eat (the monkey pod restaurant was great). A taxi into Lahaina was about $20. We also rented a car for 3 days and drove all around Maui (north road around west Maui , road to Hana and to the Haleakalā Crater). Highly recommend getting out and exploring the whole island! There are rental cars available from rental places just up the road - maybe 10 or 15 min walk north of the resort. We didn’t mind the walk, but I’m sure they’d come pick you up if you called and asked.

Overall, this was an amazing vacation...and I would definitely come back to the Maui Kaanapali Villas!
