I am one of those folk who read the horrible reviews first. Whatever. In doing so, I got really nervous about this resort. Im writing this after 6 nights. We are having an AMAZING time here. We arrived, not knowing what to expect. It was a fairly spur of the moment trip. Bar was set pretty low.
Our room was an ocean view, one bedroom. We got it at a discount through a third party site. We have been coming to Kaanapali for 30 years with our kids, and have stayed primarily at the Westin, tho we have stayed at pretty much every resort here.
We absolutely loved our room. It overlooks the pool and the ocean. We have 2 balconies. The room is clean, with new carpet. The bed is very comfortable, with a great comforter. There is a pullout couch in the main room, and two bathrooms. The kitchen has a sink, microwave. refrigerator and dishwasher, but no stove or oven. There is a community kitchen on the first floor, we did not take advantage of it.
The pool is incredible. There are now alot of chairs, but they really do monitor if you are gone more than an hour. If so, they remove your stuff.
The beach situation: In front of the hotel, there is a beach, though narrow. There is a washed up yacht on it's side. Hope somebody does something with it. You can access the beach if you go towards the Alllii. People are sitting on the sand with small chairs. Even before the swell, the beach here wasnt great as there are alot of rocks in the shallow water. Your best bet is to access the beach and walk along the beach to the front of the Westin, where the water is best. That is where everyone swims. The beach walk itself is broken up, because the actual concrete in front of the Allii fell into the water. They wont allow anyone to walk on Allii property towards the rest of the beach walk. Your options are either to walk towards the street and around the Allii that way, or to go on the beach, for 197 steps til you get to the edge of the Westin, where you can re access the beach walk. At night there is good lighting on the beach, so you wont step into a hole.
We really like this place. Staff are kind. There are a lot of littles running around, but no more so than other resorts here in Kaanapali. I actually thought of posting this with one star, so that folks like me who only read the bad reviews would see this, and be encouraged. Seriously, we really like this place and would return in a heartbeat.
