We stayed at the Paia Inn after a few days at the Sheraton at Kaanapali. We definitely got a more local vibe and charm staying in this town. A great starting point for Road to Hana. The hotel itself is pretty bare bones in regards to the layout and the rooms. We stayed in 2 city rooms, 2 and 4. Room 2 is super small and faces the main Hana Highway street so you definitely get the street noise (though it's not too bad, it's a small town, not Manhattan). Room 4 is much bigger and has a separate sitting room. There's apple tvs and cable in the rooms though our apple tv in room 2 didn't work. There's a small beach near by the property, maybe a 3-4 minute walk and was super cool. The restaurant wasn't open when we were there so no comment there. But the Paia Fish House is nearby and is awesome. Mana foods is close by for market goods.

The front desk staff are very helpful and can lend you a picnic basket for the road to Hana. There's coffee and tea in the morning, though the coffee isn't always refilled.

It's a bit pricey, especially as the rooms themselves are a bit worn down (some moldy looking spots in the bathroom). There was a random tripadvisor review posted on the wall in Room 4 (why do i need to see a review, since i'm already there?). But the beds themselves and linens are super comfortable, way more comfortable than at the Sheraton. There's a mini fridge in each room with expensive waters.

I would definitely come stay again. It's probably one of the only spots to stay in Paia, and most likely the nicest. There's plenty to do around there and the front desk can give you good recommendations. The town is literally the best!!!

We stayed 3 nights in Paia: split between Queen and King Suites. The Queen room was nice, but the King suite was definitely wow!

Paia can be sleepy, but has some great breakfast spots, restaurants and bars, nice shops and a beautiful beach. Flatbread Company right next door, Paia Bowls, Paia Bay Coffee & Bar all recommended.

The hotel has chairs, boogie boards available to use, and each time the beach had only a handful of people, plus a few surfers and sea turtles, so essentially a private beach.

If you're looking for a low key, super cool and chill spot in Maui, definitely check it out!
