Castle Molokai Shores Resort

Was surprised there was no AC in the unit, toilet ran over half the time it was flushed and we had to take the lid off and jiggle the mechanism. Only 2 of 5 vanity lights worked. Unit
had basics but nothing special. Be prepared to hear roosters crowing and with windows having to be opened because of the lack of AC it meant for early mornings!

Room Tip: No elevator so if you are above first floor prepare to haul your suitcases.

Great location, on the shore near the main town of Molokai. Apartment was fine, no frills but had everything we needed. Only problem was that when we arrived the fold out bed hadn't been prepared, so it had used sheets. Being late we couldn't contact housekeeping till the next day, when they sorted it out. No A/C but with fans and the sea breeze it was fine.

We stayed 3 nights at the Castle Molokai Shores. We got this place as part of a package and unfortunately, I didn't review Trip Advisor before we went, as I usually do. The best part of our top floor unit was the view...the grounds are very well kept and the view from the lanai is of the ocean, palm trees, and the Island of Lanai. Nice place to sit and relax. But the unit itself was very run down, clean on the surface, but not in good condition. The biggest problem was no air conditioning and no fans other than ceiling fans in the living room and bedrooms. There was a note from the management asking guests to leave their doors open as little as possible because of insects. We had no choice but to open the doors and even with the screen doors shut, there were a lot of insects, especially at night. We also saw 3 or 4 geckos which crawled out of the ceiling at night. The rugs and furniture were in poor condition, appeared dirty and worn. The sheets and towels appeared clean but there were only decorator pillow cases on the pillows, not actual cases; no soap in the bathrooms; and cooking facilities were not satisfactory. Things didn't seem clean; the toaster only toasted one side of the bread and we couldn't get the dishwasher to start. There was also a note from management to keep any open food in the refrigerator because of insects. I wouldn't stay in this unit again although it sounds from other reviews as if some of the units in the complex are nice.

Room Tip: Review which unit you will stay in before you go.

Check-in was easy, all the arrangements were made with the property manager (Molokai Realty: molokai.realty@yahoo.com, 808-553-4444) prior to arrival. Our 7:45pm flight was delayed, and at 10pm, we opened the lock-box with keys to our clean, beautiful and comfortable condo (A207) with water and snacks! (and Wi-Fi!) Our family enjoys the outdoors and it was perfect. We swam, snorkeled, fished, paddle boarded, boated behind the island, road a mule to Kalaupapa, hiked through rain forrest with the Nature Conservancy and to Halawa Falls with Anakala Phillipo. And we had a great condo to come back to, to clean up, prep, eat and get a good night sleep! Tip - Make sure you rent a car or fun vehicle.
July 2016 - I have edited and updated my review because I wanted to rebook and started reading the "other" reviews. Because of the good and the bad I have added the unit we stayed in and will be staying in (A208) and pics!

We've been visiting Molokai for 25+ years, and have seen the economy and infrastructure suffer during hard times. This was our first stay at Molokai Shores. The condos are individually owned. Many are owner-occupied. The grounds are beautifully kept and the ocean at your back door is so relaxing. There are many birds, including the "Peep Patrol," a hen with her chicks, who did the circuit of the grounds.

However . . . some of the units are in very poor condition. On our first night we were horrified at the state of the one-bedroom unit we had booked. On-line pictures do not show scuffed walls, faulty wiring, and battered furniture. The next day we requested another unit, or we would have moved to the Hotel Molokai.

The second unit, also ground floor, with 2 bedrooms, was night and day. We couldn't believe it was in the same building. This was clean, tastefully furnished, and what we had expected in the first place. It saved our stay experience.

The advantage of Molokai Shores, besides having a full kitchen and several rooms, is its proximity to town. Be sure to stock up on food staples when you arrive. We usually shopped at Friendly Market. There is an on-site laundry room.

Room Tip: C134 is a beautiful condo.
