We was just driving and came to this beach park. It was a lot of fun with swings and nice beach for our young granddaughter. We just chilled out here for about 2 hours before heading out for the next beach park.

Nanakuli is home to a very large Hawaiian homestead population and being on the Westside it is not particularly attractive for tourists due to the distance from Waikiki hotels and the unsavory reputation of West Oahu.

That being said, the beach itself is great, though the waves can get rough at times. Today, tourists are unlikely to get assaulted/robbed in broad daylight on the beach as was common decades ago unless you're going around looking for trouble. The Westside's reputation, while perhaps grounded in reality at some time in the past, is probably outdated at this point. The Waianae Coast has made many strides in education since the 70's. The beaches are, relatively speaking, safe, especially for families (the least likely targets of assault as families tend to mind their own business). While not common/popular with tourists, the beach itself is beautiful, as are many beaches on the Westside.

Maili Beach has a nice grassy park for soccer, football, volleyball, or some other sports. It's a little dirtier than average (some small pieces of trash but nothing big) due to the roaming homeless population, but I bring my family here all the time.

The beach has large rocks that look like concrete slabs lining the ocean that you can walk on. Be careful as the waves are breaking nearby. This area is generally not swimmable for tourists or the inexperienced. You will often see fishermen or locals swimming here. If you move on to the other side (North/West) it starts to get sandy near the water and you can enter/swim here.

Once you get to the lifeguard side (the actual beach side) the water is pretty nice. I've never parked at the second entrance before because we always bring our rabbit to run around on the grassy side that is more open and less crowded, but we always walk to that side when we want to swim.

Staying in Nanakuli and wanted to visit a different but nearby beach. Went on a Sunday to the north end of the beach which was quieter than than southern and central sections. Nice to have very little tourists and for it not to be crowded. Easy for families with some trees for shade, restrooms, showers and plenty of parking.
