We came here on Veterans day weekend. The weather was fabulous. We walked around into the shops and had dinner at Mona Lisa restaurant which was fantastic. The catholic cathedral had a wedding going on which was a nice surprise. I felt like I was in Italy! I am looking forward to my next visit here.

North Beach is rich with restaurants, and bars, shops gelato stores, divine chocolate stores, Pizza, coffee and the church where Joe DiMaggio married Marilyn Monroe.
The famous Italian pottery store, Biordis, is changing owners- however the merchandise will still take your breath away. Look for Graffeo coffee and XOX truffles. You will thank me. As a matter of fact - do.

Went to the Pier and Wharf for a walk and had coffee and just looked about. North Beach kind of overlaps with Telegraph Hill, Russian Hill and Fisherman's Wharf, but it's somewhat casual once you get away from the attractions like the Wharf and Pier 39. Just a couple streets off the main road are heaps of cool shops, restaurants, bars and cafes to be enjoyed, but be warned this is where the up hill walking starts.

Great place to get Italian food as there are quite a few restaurants to choose from and each looks unique. There are also a number of bakeries, cafes, and shops. It is worth taking a slow stroll up and down Columbus and looking in the windows of the various restaurants, etc. I would not say this is worth a separate trip unless you have extra time or you want to eat at an Italian restaurant.
