Adelaide Hostel

I was astounded at the work that the owner's of this hostel have put into this
building...it really is hidden, at the end of an alley-like street (Isadora Duncan Ln) and situation just 2 blocks from Union Square and BART stations, MUNI stations. The hostel environment is cozy and the staff hardworking and friendly. I especially remember a woman working the desk, Bianca. She will do her best to find a suitable room for you and or your companions. Being a "hostel" in the European sense means sharing a room with from 4-8 others. These are rooms set-up unlike any other hostel I have stayed. Bunk-style (built-in) beds with privacy curtains, a comfortable mattress, shelf with an outlet and a light for your space. Underneath are built-in storage areas for travel bags and items, with lighted outlets (you can safely leave your laptop or other devices plugged in and charging)...bring your own padlock or buy one at the desk for $5. Another great feature of the Adelaide is the free breakfast every morning. A large combination of breads, fruits and fruit-filled oatmeal, coffee and teas. This is located in the downstairs dining area..the kitchen is fully equipped if you prefer to buy and prepare your own foods, with large refrigerators (mark your items) and storage bins for separately purchased food. There is always something to do and endless recommendations for transportation, parking, restaurants, bars...special nights of the week are set for "Pub Crawls" "Movie Nights" and Special Dinner Nights (included, no extra fee). The entire place is kept clean by a seemingly always working cleaning crew... AND, you are able to stay in one, if not the most, expensive city in the US for (depending on the time of year) under $50. Free WiFi and a bank of computers to use. This truly is a find for the budget-minded traveler who doesn't mind meeting people from all parts of the world and all ages, too!

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor that is on the opposite side of the entrance. Much less b...

The Adelaide has two properties near each other. Both are nice, and the staff is great! It is located in sort of a sketchy area not far from Tenderloin, which I learned the hard way is infamous for break ins and thefts. Although I think within a block or two it's probably pretty safe! But the staff was so helpful! The manager showed me on a map how to get where I needed to go and offered to help me with whatever information I needed, and he even offered to send someone with me if I didn't feel safe walking again. The hostel is cute and comfy, very clean :) You can choose from a mixed dorm a females only dorm, so the option to feel safer is nice! They have events and breakfast like most hostels, and though priced higher than the hostels I'm used to, it was very reasonable for San Francisco :)

Great Location, but it is really expensive for what it offers.

The smell in the common areas is quite unpleasant, it seams they don' throw away the trash bins quite often. And the beds and the linens smell like they have been washed, but you can find hairs on your bed.

My room was on the basement, and when I was in the shower there were some flies on the bathroom.

The only thing that is great is the breakfast.

One of my worst experiences in hostels.

Expensive hostel, beds are good - individual lights and plug sockets at each bunk. Steep stairs so awkward to get luggage up. Showers and slight disaster, one was broke and the other took ages to get any bit warm. Expensive hostel but good location, 5 minute walk to union square. Check in staff not really interested in her job or customer service. over priced but a lot of hostels in the States seem to be compared to other places. Free breakfast.
