This is a sweet, tucked away restaurant with a truly Parisian feel to it. All the staff are French and so are most of the clientele. I ordered from the lunch menu - quiche Lorraine and Entrecote. The portions are huge and the meat was cooked to perfection. $28 for 2 courses. Excellent value and friendly staff.

Delicious random stop at La Voile. We sat outside on a sunny day for a quick yet tasteful and light lunch. Friendly service. A great stop while shopping on Newbury

As I was preparing to write this review, I noticed a few very recent reviews that commented on mediocre food at high prices. Exactly! We ate there with (adult) family expecting a terrific meal, as we knew the prices are high. Not so terrific. Duck was pretty good, snapper just OK, steak (is that what it was?) was almost inedible. Salads ordinary. Service was friendly but less than competent for such an upscale place. Servers kept changing, could not keep track of what we had ordered..but with a smile. Ambience is fine. So will we go back? Not anytime soon. For those prices, we can do better.

I don't usually fuss about price, as I don't mind paying good money for a restaurant meal, but in that case my expectations are high for meal quality and service. I will only say I've had better at 3/4 the price. The ambiance is nice, although the restaurant space is typically small and crowded for Newbury Street. The service was cheerful, but not perfect, a tad slow. The food was a little inconsistent, some excellent, some disappointing, A $27 ribeye was ordered medium, delivered well done, and with nothing more imaginative than fast-food-style french fries. Mussels in a curry sauce were very good, and the onion soup was excellent (as it should be at a French restaurant). I probably wouldn't have tried this place except for the difficulty of getting a reservation at a particular time on a big restaurant night. I can't recommend it over so many good places in the Back Bay.

My wife and I visited for a date night, the menu looked amazing and we were spoilt for choice. After asking the waiter about what exactly was included on the Charcuterie board I decided to order it, when it came out though it didn't have the things he'd advertised and so we sent it back, it came back some time later with an alternative but was still disappointing as there were many other options I'd rather of had. When our mains arrived my wife's moules looked amazing but with my duck, everything other than the duck (sweet potatoes, spinach, mushrooms etc) was cold so this was also sent back. This took a while and when it did finally come back the portion size was less than half of what I had been originally served and what we had seen being served to others all evening. I mentioned this to the waiter who just laughed, so I told the manager and he apologized and sent me over some more duck, but still nothing to eat it with (just the tea spoon of sweet potato purée I started with). The desserts were fantastic - both faultless. Overall service was ok at best, a bit slow, and far from the polished service you get at other top restaurants in the city. I may have just been unlucky, but for the prices they charge, neither the food or the service was as it should have been hence the 2 bubble rating.
