Description: A coastal Italian restaurant by Chef Colin Lynch located in Boston's South End neighborhood, Bar Mezzana's menu highlights the simplicity and beauty of regional Italian cooking. In addition to a selection of handmade pastas- there is a separate daily crudo menu, sections of the menu dedicated to both sliced -to--order Prosciutto di Parma, and a variety of seasonal crostini, as well as seasonal entrees. The beverage program showcases Italian wines thoughtfully selected to pair with Chef Colin's food and includes both widely- loved varietals from all over Italy and lesser known (but equally enjoyable) discoveries. The selection of draft and bottled beers, as well as Beverage Director Ryan Lotz's cocktail list, display a similar synergy with the food and feature celebrated Italian cocktails including a perfect Negroni, in addition to the classics.

The octopus here is absolutely fabulous - you have to try it... :-)

Some of the best crudo we've had... and did I mention the cocktails?! :-)

Nothing bad to say about Bar Mezzana - it is absolutely fabulous :-)

Out with dear friends on gorgeous September Eve...Bar Mezzana Delivers Excellence from First Course to Finale! Room is beautiful (Open Kitchen, Wall of Windows, industrial yet cozy with comfy banquets), Staff is Friendly, Fun & Knowledgable. Most importantly, Hats Off to Chef Lynch....this menu is selective...one won't find 'meat, fish & fowl 50 ways' or outsize servings...one WILL find meticulous balance of creative ingredients/perfect presentation, clean, fresh flavor impact in every bite...corn salad, bruschettas, tomato/nectarine salad, amazing crudo offerings each one unique, hand made pastas (please order the lobster, just please)...swordfish so delicious & flavorful, delightful blueberry crostata & gianjuja tart w/sweet cream...it is to swoon! Can't wait to return, watch the sun set over South End scene & try everything else on the menu!!

...restaurants I have been to ever. Ever.

Bar Mezzana has an incredible atmosphere. Bustle. Hustle. And Chatter. Enough to make you realise you are somewhere incredibly sought after. But one decibel short of having to shout out your whole conversation.

I had a martini. A Duchy of Malfy Martini. I drink martinis. Lots of martinis. This wasn't those. This was complex, citrus, celery, smooth (well, for a martini). An absolute revolution in what I am used to.

And, then the starters. The sashimi. The ceviche. The mozzarella. All perfect. But. The sashimi. Quite honestly steps, lunges, leaps, leagues ahead of anything I have tried before. Clean. Fresh. Acidic. Sweet.

Outstanding.

The pasta was delicious. The chicken under a brick was so tasty, I laughed whilst trying it. A lot. It was comically brilliant.

I had Corsican wine. Have nothing else. It is familiar in quality, yet completely original in terroir. You can taste the salty herbs hanging from the steep Corsican cliffs.

Thank you to all the staff. You are triumphant. I am not from Boston, but Bar Mezzana is worth any trip to go there.

We had dinner at Bar Mezzana on a Sunday night in early September and ate outside. To me it's not really an Italian restaurant since I prefer traditional Italian restaurants and not a fan of raw fish which they had a large selection to choose from. I had the brick chicken which was under cooked and my wife had the sword fish which she enjoyed. The others in our party had some of the raw fish selections and they also enjoyed their dinner. The service was excellent.

The rather small menue does contain enough dishes that are worth exploring. They are interesting but not innovative, really. Also, they are not on the small side which is nice. The space is nice (quite loud inside when busy, outside is more peaceful), the waiter was knowledgeable and friendly, the wine list is good too.
So, we had a good time and would be happy to come back.
