On arrival we were disappointed to find we had been allocated a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park but Eddie helped us out by arranging for us to move to a room overlooking Newbury Street as soon as one became available. Kelsey then arranged for our luggage to be moved so that we didn't have to interrupt our plans in order to switch rooms.
Both rooms were very comfortable and clean and we slept really well in the very comfy beds. The room overlooking Newbury Street gave us a great view and was surprisingly quiet considering it is such a vibrant neighbourhood.
Buffet breakfasts were good, unlimited coffee and juice, pastries, cereal, fruit, bacon (or sausage patties), scrambled eggs and toast. All tasty and replenished regularly.
There is easy access to the "T" (metro system) as you can walk to either the Hynes Convention Centre or the Prudential Centre in a matter of minutes and from there you can get anywhere quickly and easily. We bought a 7 day pass on the T which gave us unlimited travel and we certainly got our moneys worth.
There is great shopping in the area and plenty of good places to eat. One of our favourites is Reginas Pizza in the North End .... great food, great prices and great atmosphere (be prepared to queue though as it is very popular).
The Cheesecake Factory in the Prudential Centre is also good and has a huge menu and equally big portion sizes!
We'd also recommend a trip out to Harvard and maybe you'll spot Malia Obama wandering into her dorm as we did when we were there!
Be aware that there are a number of steps up to the front entrance of the hotel which you'll need to negotiate with your luggage. Kelsey kindly let us go out of the back entrance for our taxi to the airport so we could use the elevator ....... much easier, thanks Kelsey!
We would have no hesitation in staying at the Newbury Guest House again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of Newbury Street.

The Newbury Guest House was a comfortable, quaint brownstone in a lovely setting. It provided a "neighborhood" experience, while being close to the "T" line from which we accessed all areas of Boston easily. Our room overlooked the street, which enabled us to watch the hustle and bustle of the people below. A fireplace added a "colonial" feel. Our room contained the best king size mattress I have slept on in a hotel in years, a table and two chairs, refrigerator, safe and flat screen tv. The bathroom was clean, with a tub/shower combination. A nice sized closet with an iron was provided. The staff was lovely and helpful at all times. We had a delightful stay at the Newbury Guest House.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the street as it adds to the experience.

We arrived in for our first trip to Boston and booked to stay at the the Newbury for 3 nights.

The B&B is situated in the quiet and pleasant Back Bay district and offers a really good vantage point for exploring the city on foot. We thought it offered a really good compromise between somewhere nice and relatively quiet to stay, whilst still being within 10-15 mins walk of most parts of the city.

The room was simply furnished and a bit basic but if all you want is somewhere which is affordable and comfortable, then this should be one to add to your list.

I booked a two-night stay for the last week of September back in early July. With just 10 days before our visit to Boston the hotel cancelled our booking. The reason? The hotel had upgraded its booking system to "improve customer satisfaction" (well it didn't improve mine!) and our booking, made nearly three months before, was allegedly the last one made so we were jettisoned (I didn't believe that then and I don't believe it now).

I learnt all this by phoning the hotel - we had to call them as the less-than-helpful Eddie advised that he couldn't dial International so we paid out to try to have our reservation reinstated. Not a hope. Even worse, Eddie suggested that he contact local hotels do that we could stay in the Back Bay area for the same amount. But that was the very last that we heard from our friend Eddie, other than to confirm that he had received my email address so that he could respond (and he had received it). It was pretty clear on my third phone call that he just wanted this problem to go away. Prices for a last minute booking have, of course, skyrocketed so we are severely out of pocket.

Cold hearted, amateurish management. If that's the level of service before you arrive then think twice. Best advice is to avoid - a booking here may cost you more than you think.

Our room was very comfortable, small by American standards though typical per European standards. No coffee maker in the room which took some getting used to, though coffee was available by 7 am every morning in the restaurant. Breakfast was included in the room fee. Great staff, clean and comfortable rooms, great location. The owner was generous with his time in sharing local history if asked, very interesting gentlemen. At the end of the day, cookies greeted guests on return. For a comfortable, friendly alternative to a hotel, this is a top notch choice.
