As with most Japanese food -its pricey and you can eat tons and realise you have blown your budget. So lunchtime is often when you get some specials that are good value. Hence we tried the bento boxes which are fresh and filling and definitely a great option

Everything in this place is savory, it's a great place to sushi lovers or foodies. The staff is also amazing, for sure I'll come back.

Took my Mom here for a mother's-daughter's day out after a great spa day ...We should have walked out as soon as we sat at the sushi bar, but I wanted to give them a chance. Should have gone with my gut feeling. We were there early, so they weren't busy, and there was no excuse for the lackluster service. First of all, we walked in and there was no one there to greet us. The bartender saw we weren't being helped and went in the back to get someone but it took a while. He had to go back a second time. Finally, we were seated at the sushi bar. We walked up and there was a chef behind the bar who looked sullen and unfriendly...He did not even look up, offer us a greeting or a smile. When you run a sushi bar, and in accordance to Japanese custom, the greeting is the first impression you can give to a customer. The customer should be greeted immediately and with enthusiasm. We got nothing. We sat and waited. We saw other patrons in the restaurant and other servers, but no one came to serve us. Finally after an unacceptable amount of time, a waiter came. He was friendly enough and took our drink order, but we already had a bad impression. We made the decision that we would try another sushi place in town after we'd order something to sample the place. So we sat and observed. A man in his 30s who was perhaps the manager was attending to a group who was seated near the bar and who had apparently placed a sushi order that he was compelled to watch over the chef make. Apparently these folks were VIPs...but I'm sure clueless...He made no attempt to say hello to us even though we were the only patrons at the counter, and was ready to drop a nice sum of money on great sushi. Nada. We placed an order for some sashimi and a roll and watched the chef make it, who to this point, has still not acknowledged our presence. He made the order then placed it on the counter behind him rather than serve it directly to us. There it sat for nearly 10 minutes before being brought to us by the waiter. The sushi was not bad, but the service left a bad taste in our mouths - worse than rotten fish. The service sucks. This is a place for people who want to eat sushi because they think it's trendy but know absolutely NOTHING about proper Japanese service and customs. What a joke. The people who give this place good reviews obviously don't care about customer service or know what good sushi is.

Message to the owners and the manager -- If you want to run a Japanese restaurant, then you should educate yourselves on what is proper service...This is a disgrace to the Japanese culture and customs. This place was a waste of time and money. We ventured into Cambridge to Cafe Sushi and while the atmosphere there wasn't as hip and trendy as Douzo, we had FAR better service and sushi served by people who actually KNOW what they are doing. And it was packed! A far cry from the 3-4 tables that were populated at Douzo. Laughable. Take the time and go over the Charles to Cafe Sushi. If you love sushi, then you'll thank me.

Don't waste your time here if you know what good service and sushi is. The owner/manager looked like he had a stick up you know where and was too cool to smile or provide a modicum of hospitality. I bet the owners have never even set foot in Japan...Douzo translates as meaning an invite to someone to partake in something, like "please, go ahead, by all means"....I will say no thank you to Douzo and will advise others to steer clear. You'll get better service elsewhere.

I'm not a huge sushi fan, but I really enjoyed Douzo. The interior is your typical trying-to-be-cool sushi place, but the sushi was excellent (my sushi-snob friend even agreed) and reasonably priced. The wait staff was very attentive. Only complain was that the Moscow Mule I ordered didn't come in a copper mug (slightly absurd complaint, but oh well). The location (basically next to Back Bay station) is also prime!

Great upbeat atmosphere, excellent service, well presented food, reasonably priced, attntive, "hands on owner". - all good.
