We loved being in Tupelo! Not nearly as small as we expected, we made sure we drove past Elvis’ birthplace, (just a tiny house with a front porch, and a museum and lovely walkway set up around it) but were unable to visit the museum as we arrived late. However, it was so fun to imagine what it must have been like to be an 11-year old boy who walked to school and made a stop on his way home at Johnnie’s Drive-In! What a cool little place that obviously hasn’t changed much! The menu looked fantastic, with its real diner food, and Moonpie selection. We stopped in for a treat, and ended up with a delicious apple pie ala mode! The place is tiny, with a limited amount of seating, but that’s what makes it so great… pouring ourselves into one of the single-sided booths, we were so excited to think, “Hey! We might be sitting right where little Elvis sat and ate some fries!” How fun is THAT? Don’t pass the place up… if you’re stopping in Tupelo for whatever reason, stop at Johnnie’s!

The food was good...don't expect gourmet this is an old fashioned hamburger joint. Milkshakes were delish! The atmosphere was all Elvis and we got to sit in the Elvis Booth. Don't worry if you don't get to sit there to eat...you can get pictures in between diners.

We were on a budget so stopped here for lunch and diner, then breakfast the next day. Where else can you feed a family of 4 for $11.51. Kids had grilled cheese and fries. We had 3 burgers/fries between us. Tried the dough burger and it was good! $1.42 ea! Sat in Elvis booth twice. There is a photo of him there to verify he actually ate there. Staff were super friendly. It is old and small but super cool. Would highly recommend.

This place is a definite must-see. If you're a vegan whose gonna complain about a burger, then don't stop. If you want to remanence about a childhood experience with great burgers, rings, and history then don't miss it. Friendly staff, fast service, really good food. And by the way, Elvis ate here regularly and has a booth.
