“Great, if you like to shop”
Reviewed 26 February 2012

While this is not my "cup of tea," my wife spent hours walking in and out of the shops. Nice place to visit, and it's free. After dark, they have musicians playing. It was a nice end to a long day. We ate dinner at Miguel's.

“Too commercial”
Reviewed 25 February 2012

Good, but not as good as it use to be. It is more commercialized now and doesn't have the community feeling I used to get. The restaraunts around there are very good.

“authentic”
Reviewed 25 February 2012

If you want to get a glimpse of what San Diego was like 100 years ago, don't miss Old Town -- especially the state-owned historic area. The historic area seems a bit commercial at first, until you realize that this is not some phony recreated retail "village", but the actual, original town plaza with shops, restaurants and house museums side by side. It's a California State Park, too, with bathrooms and visitor center and staff interpreters at key locations. Perfect for families and out-of-town tourists. It's an easy reach if you take the trolley tour, too. Plan to spend a couple of hours at least.

“Great spot for a Sunday stroll”
Reviewed 25 February 2012

Accessible by red trolley or bus, the Old Town Historic Park is a trip back through time. Even the shops keep to a yesteryear flavor. There's always music going on here, and the restaurants, though touristy have pretty good food. A nice place to take out of town guests.
If you take the train from LA to San Diego this is accessible via the Red Trolley line.

“Make the graveyard your first stop”
Reviewed 25 February 2012

If you want historic, then the graveyard will give it to you, You have to purchase a ticket to the old Whaley house which is rumored to be haunted so go at night to add to the atmosphere. Oteher than that there isn't much else that is authentic in the park. Many of the shops that line the main street are typical of the tourist traps you will find any where. But if you need a Stone Cold ice cream, souvenir t-shirt, coffee mug or post card they are not hard to find. On the positive, there are some nice pottery shops in the area.
