Owner description: Visit the Ripple Rock Nature Center, located on the Scenic Drive, just south of the visitor center. Kids can spin wool, pretend to milk a cow, make cornmeal on a prehistoric grinding stone, identify fossils or play with animal puppets.

This is a stop in the Fruita section of Capitol Reef NP. It was one of the old homesteads and is surrounded by fruit groves. Deer often graze very close to the covered porch. The center was staffed with enthusiastic Park Service interns and provided excellent youth oriented programs.

We stopped at the Ripple Rock Nature Center when we visited Capitol Reef last August. The kids wanted to become Capitol Reef Jr Rangers and Jr Geologists. One of the requirements is to join a ranger led program. The program was at the ripple Rock Nature Center. The kids (and adults!) really enjoyed the ranger program, learning a lot about the park. Inside the Nature Center are interactive displays, educational literature, and a wonderful little gift shop. The employees were very friendly. The kids had a great time. We didn't get to spend much time exploring outside the Nature Center as a storm was moving in. I would recommend anyone visiting Capitol Reef with children to stop here for a bit.

I had high expectations based on past reviews. It was only open one of the days we were there so we made a point in visiting it. It's really small and we spent like 5 minutes...

Take the kids and the camera, Christmas card perfect. We spent about two hours there. Bring in your own snacks.

This is an interactive discovery center in Capitol Reef National Park. The kids can learn about the pioneer lifestyle, the geology, the animals, and even make their own plaster casts of their favorite animal footprints, all for free.
